Willowholt

Brightfire

Born to Sweetbark, a wanderer from the original Briarholt, Brightfire struck out on her own when barely more than a cub, unable to get along with her independent, arrogant mother. Some twenty or so years of wandering lead eventually found within her a desire for a holt and home, and so, on the directions given to her by her mother turns past, Brightfire made to return to Briarholt.

Her return coincided with the fire that destroyed the holt; before finding the holt, Bright was caught in the inferno, and ended up running for her life before the flames. She survived thanks to two factors: a lone wolf -- later her bondfriend Flamerunner -- whose path crossed hers while they both ran, and unexpected healing power awakening to stave off the worst of the burns she accumulated. Even so, she was badly scarred, and is perhaps as self-conscious about her unclothed appearance as any elf could possibly be; her near knee-length hair helps to cover the scars, but it is rare when she will swim or bathe with others around. Flamerunner stayed with her for nearly twenty years before age took him; Bright never had another wolf-friend.

Brightfire did eventually find the newly re-established Briarholt, and for several turns, she settled there, healing and helping the little holt grow. After a while, however, her wanderlust roots caught her once again, and she left Briarholt, to fall into the unexpected trap of Recognition. Her mate -- a young Underworlder/Catelf named Talek -- was hardly the sort that Brightfire would have chosen, being uncertain and cloud-headed much of the time, and having spent much of her life determinedly single, it took Bright a solid four years after the Recognition to not only accept it, but to start to accept the love she felt for her mate and child.

Brightfire and Talek settled, after a time, at Willowholt, somewhat to Brightfire's surprise. She had, after all, intended to do what was necessary to produce a cub, and go on her way. Two hands of turns later, still living there, and extremely content, Brightfire never officially joined the holt, but hunted and howled a little to the outside, never becoming close friends with the holt members, though always willing to hunt or howl or heal when needed.

Plague came to Willowholt, as it visited many of the tribes, feasting on magicusers and their powers most especially; Brightfire was exposed to the virus when she tried to heal the Mountain elf Gerren, and not long after took ill, the plague slowly burning through her until she died (stardate 2.25.96), literally in her lifemate's arms; should you wish to read it, there's a log of the final scene available.

Tinyhowl

Born with one amazingly lusty howl, Tinyhowl's name was granted to her by Rainfire of Willowholt, who'd never seen a cub before and was, all around, quite astonished by the noise she made. It wasn't a fluke; Tiny's voice has persisted in being penetrating, and she's easily the noisest cub in Willowholt.

Her interests tend to run along the lines of noise-making, as well. When the Traders came to Willowholt -- bringing the plague that killed Tinyhowl's mother -- among them was a songmaker, by the name of Sunsinger, who agreed to teach Tinyhowl to sing, in exchange for a song that she was to make, to share first with him. She went about it eagerly, though her mother's death quelled the child's enthusiasm for a time.

When she was around eighteen turns of age, Tinyhowl Recognized a tribesmate, Jylien. Though they did not lifemate, they remain good friends, both proud of their son, Calmwind.

NightDancer

NightDancer is an elf of nearly nine hundred turns, born some time during the chieftaincy of Mantricker in the tribe which would eventually become Lostholt. Fairly quiet, possessed of a wry sense of humor and a great love for his family, as a youth he had a desire for adventure, and he left his tribe with a hand of others, to explore the plains and outlying mountains.

In the plains, NightDancer and the others met a small group of Plainsrunners; a Recognition ensued, and three of the Plainsrunners joined the Wolfriders in their explorations, eventually settling into a Holt that they called Shattered Rivers, grown up at a waterfall.

NightDancer Recognized his lifemate, WildWind, twice, producing their first child, a storyteller at Wolfhaven named WindDream, and their second, a prolific young elf named Dawn. Some twenty turns of the seasons before the founding of the Willowholt, while NightDancer was hunting, skyfire struck the Holt and burned it to the ground. He returned to the smoking remains, and unable to find any signs of his family, changed his name from Branchjumper to NightDancer, and disappeared to the southern jungles, where he stayed for nearly six eights of years. Eventually he came out of the jungles to explore the world again, and found, to his surprise, at Willowholt, the daughter Dawn he had thought lost, and ultimately, a home.

In March of 1998, I retired NightDancer from play. He returned to his wanderings, and perhaps someday will rejoin Willowholt.
