a hundred million things

November 3rd, 2008, 9:04 am

I have–I have not been counting, but I suspect it is in the range of–about a hundred million things to do this week. Approximately. More or less. Among them is starting to swim again, which is really kind of the thing I want most to do and also the thing that is hardest/perhaps least likely *to* do. This is partly because I’ve had a cold more of the last six weeks than not, and I am simply not confident of my energy levels, and I *need* my energy to write and do revisions, so I’m sort of afraid I’ll squander it if I swim. It’s all very complicated. *squinchy face* Possibly the smart thing to do would be to write during the day and go to the pool in the early evening. I used to swim after school all the time. In theory this should work.

I have to write–I don’t know, what’s 1700×5? 8500. Have to write 8500 words for NNWM. Actually, put down baldly like that, that doesn’t seem so bad, does it? And I have not yet begun revisions, so I need to really get on the ball with those. It’s already probably too late for me to manage to get paid this year.

Ok, it seems that that’s really only three things, but somehow it feels much more like a hundred million things.

At least I have already voted.

Of course that’s what I thought of.

This morning, while reading an article about Tina Fey’s wildly successful Sarah Palin impersonations, I came upon the line “It’s the court jester’s job to make fun of the king.”

This, *obviously*, triggered “You can have no idea how happy I was you had come to make music for me again,” and now, god damn it, I cannot re-read that book until I have done today’s work, and I am sullen and sulking about this.

On the other hand, I know what I’ll be doing with my evening. :)

Yesterday’s thinks to do list has become today’s, too. I did a fair bit of work yesterday, but didn’t actually finish any of the things on the list.

- work up a handout for the “developing your writer’s voice” class (in progress)
- ideally, although not as critically, also create handouts for
» visualization class
» dialog class
- print out the submissions for critique
- review at least one of them
- print out WALKING DEAD, while I’m at it

thinks to do

June 14th, 2008, 7:42 pm

thinks i gotta work out the time to do while continuing to write a chapter a day:

- revise “frwl”
- get the “frwl” *contract* signed, it seems
- write THE IMPERATOR’S HEIR proposal
- email scott re: covers
- work on bursary grant application
- figure out which other grant to apply for

swear to god, at some point this headlong rush is going to all be over and i will have *no idea* what to do with myself.

I had at least two more things to put on that thinks list, and cannot remember them anymore. Bah humbug.

things i need…

March 15th, 2008, 2:33 pm

Things I need to write that are not actually words in a book but which are none-the-less work-related writing and which keep piling up not that that’s bad it’s just that I’m feeling snowed under so maybe if I get some of them done I’ll feel less so, and if this is avoidance for the line edits, well, too bad:

- quick note to the Dabels
- paranormal romance blog
- author introduction blog
- synopsis blog
- comic book blog

We went to see the Spiderwick Chronicles movie this morning. It’s quite wonderful. One does automatically want to compare it to Labyrinth, but that’s not any more appropriate than comparing Stardust to Princess Bride. Go see it, if you haven’t, because it’s well worth it.

We also went to see 10,000 BC yesterday. We expected it to be bad, of course. We didn’t expect it to be *boring*. My god. That was an 80 minute movie stuffed into 2 hours. Gah.
