I have successfully gotten my unlimited movies card! And gone to a movie on it! …not, however, Toy Story 3, because I had rashly trusted Brian’s information about the time and it turned out he was looking at Thursday’s schedule. :) So we went to the next available thing, which was “Knight and Day”, and which was probably not nearly as *good* a movie as Toy Story 3. It was entertaining, though, and Tom Cruise still has a hot bod. I said shallowly. :) Also, Cameron Diaz does not look a day younger than her 3…I was going to say 36, but in fact she turns 38 at the end of the month. And looks it. Not in a bad way, but no dewy-skinned youngster, she. I think that’s nice. :) Now, that bikini body of hers, that’s a different topic. Speaking of which, my vague plan to have an ice cream sundae for lunch was thwarted by the ice cream shop at the theatre not being open when we got there. I’m torn on whether this is a good thing or not. :)
I need to figure out my Rivendell mileage. Maybe tonight.

If, and this is very much an If, because it is based on not just a ship coming in, but a ship coming in with enough cargo to fill a pit, but if a girl was going to fly over to England for FantasyCon, what airport would she be flying into, assuming she has to fly on one of the dead cheap airlines which don’t seem to actually fly into Nottingham? And how would she then get from that airport to Nottingham? And what hotel might she stay at, given that she’s heard nightmare stories about the convention hotel?

This morning we toddled (or more accurately, bussed) to the American embassy to apply for Young Indiana’s passport and to register his birth. He looks exactly like his father in his passport photo. It’s hysterical. :) The bus ride to the embassy took longer than the whole process inside, so that was good. We had to raise our right hands and swear we’d told the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth, but without a “so help me God” attached, which is good because I’d have balked. Probably not for very long, since getting Indy’s passport & etc is more important than getting in an argument over making an oath in the name of a creator I don’t believe in, but I was pleased there was no deity involved. :)
And! Then Ted and I went our separate ways, he to work and me to town. In town, I collected the stroller which we bought four weeks ago and I ran into a wall and damaged three weeks ago and have been missing very much ever since. And it cost fifty fucking euro to fix, which is a far cry from the ten I was told.
And! I then popped over to the cinema where I learned that yes indeed, early film showings are baby-friendly. So now we know it’s possible to go to early shows of almost everything (they won’t let you go to R-rated films with a baby. Buh, sez I. Buh.), so we will be able to catch up on most of the summer blockbusters we want to watch. I failed a second time, though, to get my unlimited card. I’ll have to try doing it online this afternoon.
And! Then I swung by the Writers’ Centre to find out about writers’ groups and volunteer to send them my resume and a couple books and stuff in case they’d like to have someone teach some classes/a workshop on writing genre fiction. Now I have a printout of local groups and maybe I’ll find one to go to. :)
And! Then Young Indiana and I walked home, which we had not previously done. It’s really not very far at all. It took about 25 minutes, and that was with waiting for traffic lights and stopping at the butcher to buy some poke fops for dinner (and for the butcher man to have a nice little conversation with Himself).
And! …now I should go do dishes, and then run to the post orifice once Young Indiana wakes up from his nap.
(or perhaps he’ll wake up before I get the dishes done because I was busy making a blog post…)
thinks to do:
- unlimited card
- post orifice
- draw names for TRUTHSEEKER
- grocery shopping
- dishes

Young Indiana and I went out to Longford today to run errands. Our usual cab driver was Very Surprised Indeed to see us. :) But it was a darned good thing I employed his services, as one of the errands was dropping by our old house to collect the post, which I’d been told there was a lot of. Now, I was imagining a large stack of envelopes and papers.
What I got was one large box of books containing TRUTHSEEKER (which is very very pretty), an extremely heavy box containing the Dresden Files RPG, an envelope with two more copies of TRUTHSEEKER in it, two oversized envelopes with cover flats and two more oversized envelopes with State of Alaska voting information in them, a magazine, and a couple normal-sized envelopes.
This when I was already carrying a 16 pound infant and a diaper bag of at least equal weight. Getting to our next errand was a bit of a challenge. :)
Tomorrow:
- get we to the embassy
- check about the stroller
- check about the early cinema showings being baby-ok
Frankly, that will be enough. If I can get even a little writing done on top of that I will be very very happy.

Why is it so much easier to remember the 2450987 things that need doing the moment the baby wakes up, instead of during his 3 hour nap? I am a stupid, stupid rat creature. This is why I make lists. *sigh*
- laundry
- clean the kitchen
- sweep
- mop
- vacuum
- walk
- write
- clean kitty litter
- make dinner

I made it to Baby Cinema yesterday. The movie, a Woodie Allen film called “Whatever Works” was actually pretty enjoyable in the end, which is not really what I expect from Woodie Allen films. More importantly, however, Young Indiana was a delight, and indeed, the show was far less disrupted than one might have expected with 30+ babies there. They left the house lights up, so one could see to change diapers and to pace when necessary, and yeah. It was great. I didn’t meet anybody (I did try to strike up a couple conversations, but it didn’t work), but I did figure out that one needs to arrive early enough to stand in line for coffee and talk to people. Had the bus not been very very late I probably would’ve arrived that early, but anyway. Success! I will go again next time, with any luck! Yay!

I’ve just uninstalled AIM from my computer because it insists the version I’m using via Trillian, which doesn’t seem to have an upgrade, is about to expire, but when I installed a new version of AIM itself the damned “you’re about to run out of AIM!” window didn’t stop popping up. So I nuked the whole thing, and since only about two people IM me on Yahoo and my msn account stopped connecting anyway, I nuked Trillian to. So anybody who uses that to contact me, well, I’m sorry. I’m on gchat as cemurphyauthor, or you can rely on my sporadic ability to answer email.
For the record, I do not want a solution to this problem. I’m perfectly happy not having it installed.
