rough start, sterling finish

I got up early(ish) this morning to get an early start on MAGIC & MANNERS, in hopes of reaching the 9.7K I’d have needed for a 15K weekend. Only I opened the Scrivener app and…a full chapter was missing from yesterday’s work. Over 2000 words.

I lost my shit. One of Scrivener’s perks is that this is emphatically Not Supposed To Happen, and I honestly still don’t know *what* happened, because there was a conflicting file version from Saturday at 4:45pm, 45 minutes before I even got home from writing, much less online. And the chapter wasn’t in the backup, it wasn’t on the computer I’d typed it into, it wasn’t in Dropbox, I don’t even know. I couldn’t even get Google to find me an “oh fuck find my backup” walk-through. I lost. my. shit.

Fortunately for me, my friend Mikaela *was* able to get Google to find an “oh fuck find my backup” walk-through, and I recovered the chapter. Then in a turn of I-don’t-know-what-the-fuck, when I created a new file/document/thing, whatever it is Scrivener calls it, to paste the recovered chapter into, IT REAPPEARED IN THE NEW FILE SPACE without me doing anything else.

What. the actual. fuck.

(Look, if you know why this happened? I really don’t care. Don’t explain it to me. I won’t appreciate it.)

Anyway, by the time I’d recovered both physically and emotionally it was way the hell past “an early start”, so I took myself for a walk over to the cafe I often write at, where I had a good breakfast and where my favourite barista brought me a pot of herbal tea unasked for. It turned out I really wanted some of the tea, and it re-established my equilibrium and I wrote 5700 words for a total of 11K this weekend and some dramatic turns of event in what is definitely not PRIDE & PREJUDICE. :)
