Before and After

That cats have been to the groomer. Both of them now have very short hair on their bodies, but the hair is normal length on their legs, tails and heads.

It looks odd.

Sif is kinda freaked out about it and keeps licking herself, I think to get the smell of the clippers etc off her. Hope was stressed out in the car and while she was being clipped; now she's fine.

Paul called and he had fun at the event and his back and leg are doing fine so far, so that's very good news. I'm sure he will post about it in his blog Monday.

Dark Chocolate with Raspberries... Proof of the Existence of God?

Buy some. Eat some. Great chocolate for a good cause.

The nose knows: Went to the doctor, who agreed that I have (well, *had* now) a sinus infection, and so I’m on antibiotics again, and allergy meds, too. Zyrtec D, and it seems to work. I’m feeling mostly better, which is a good thing, cuz wow! was this a nasty one. He figures it was allergies that set the stage for the infection, and told me that this is a *terrible* spring in that regard.

So, again, no fighting. My head would have gone "splortch" and collapsed into itself like a bag of jello if I'd been hit.

Paul is frustrated enough with me having been sick all winter that we are moving our “shave-the-cats-and-clean-the-hell-out-of-the-apartment” plan to the top of the list (I came up with said plan from being so damn frustrated with being sick). While he is away in Fargo for the ToC this weekend, I will be taking care of the shave-the-cats bit and I’m hoping to get a start on the clean-the-apartment bit, too. I bought a mattress case thingy and some pillow covers since they are probably all dusty inside. Once the worst of spring is by and I can go off the allergy meds for two weeks, I will be going for allergy testing. And won’t that be fun. But its progress.

Must... get... well... so... I... can... hit... the... pell...

More fighting, less eventing: Money issues again, or rather, still. We decided it was time to be more aggressive with our financial 'rehabilitation', and so as a part of that we have cut down our hoped-for schedule of SCA events for the summer war season. We have to get this done if we ever want to buy a house. And we do. So we are. So fighting is local.

We have an appointment next week to see the Nutritionist/Dietician person at the chiropractor's office, to see what he or she can do for us. As well, we're considering Weight Watchers as an option. I dunno what to expect, but I *do* expect we'll find out!

I'm planning this weekend to get some sewing done every day. I have several projects I want to get off my plate (can't you hear the fabric calling me?). Our friend Kymm is starting 'SCA project nights' twice a month at her house, so I ought to have lots to keep me going in that regard.

Ben is finished his first stint with this expander, and weathered it very well. He has a small gap between his front teeth now, which we were warned to expect, so we even have proof it's working. His main frustration with the whole thing seems to be threading the floss around the wires. I remember thinking that sucked, and so not doing enough of it.

Work is going ok but I have noticed an odd phenomenon... colour-coded clothing. Everyone on my floor dresses like each other every day, without there being an email going around to tell us, "Thursday is tan pants, black shirt day!" It started on my very first day. I wore black slacks, a black shell top and a red shirt. Sara, my boss, was wearing the same outfit. She introduced me to Kim, my team lead, who was wearing... you guessed it, the same outfit. Mary, who was there when I was at MGIC a year ago was wearing THE SAME OUTFIT.

No one seems to notice. I saw a guy today come out of the stairwell, and he was wearing tan pants and black shirt and I thought, "Dude, that outfit... it's so *yesterday*..." Today was dark-day. Everyone wore all over dark colours, and all one colour. I wore all dark green, Mary was all in black, Kim was all in dark navy, both Davids (don't ask) were in all black...

Time to wash my face and start the trundle bedward. Hugs all around!

Been a Long Time

Short version:

Ben has braces. Work is going ok. Robyn is married now. I’m allergic to the Bahamas. Spring is coming. My gauntlets still don’t work right. Food is complicated.

Long version:

Ben has braces. The orthodontist’s diagnosis and explanation are that as Ben grew, the relationship between his upper and lower jaw got out of whack (blame heredity for that); his rearmost molars meet before the rest of his teeth, and hold the front teeth apart. Correction right now consists of regular braces on his lower teeth and a rapid-expander device that is installed between his back upper teeth. The braces will straighten his lower teeth while the expander widens his upper palate, making it more of a U shape than its current V shape. The ortho talked about head-gear as well, but I’m not sure when that will start. Once the shape of his upper jaw is corrected, he’ll get braces to align his top teeth as well. After, a retainer. His attitude is really good – he’s glad to be getting this taken care of and is looking forward to how he will look once it’s all said and done. I think his teeth have been more of a burden to him in term of self-image than he has been willing to express.

Work is going ok. I’m a “clerk-specialist 3”, but I don’t know what that means. I believe it is a bottom-of-the-scale office generalist type thing. The work load isn’t heavy or particularly challenging but it is pretty enjoyable. And the people are nice. I have three months to decide if I want to apply to work there permanently rather than keep on temping. Good things about the job: nice people, relatively nice space, decent hours, I can drive in with Paul but if I don't there is parking nearby, Starbucks is nearby, not too strict supervision, helpful co-workers, good corporate attitude. Bad things about the job: kinda menial, Starbucks is nearby, it's a desk-and-computer gig (not much activity), can't wear jeans, the pay isn't great. We'll see how it all pans out!

Robyn is married now. Her wedding was lovely, the setting was beautiful - white sand beach with a small white wood and gauze gazebo only steps from the ocean. Her dress was gorgeous… white satiny stuff, strapless, with a band of pearl beading about three inches wide or so all around the top and the bottom, including the train. Both Robyn and Jim looked a little nervous, but happy.

I’m allergic to the Bahamas. I had *horrible* allergies the whole time I was there and I think all the coughing and associated crap has brought back the bronchitis I had. Back to coughing and not breathing and bleah!

Spring is coming. Thank god for sunshine.

My gauntlets still don’t work right. And I dunno what to do about it. I'm going to re-pad them, then fight with them as they are for a while I think... if we can't get them to stop briusing my knuckles, then I guess I make new ones from scratch.

Food is complicated. Both Paul and I need to lose weight, which means changing our eating habits which means changing our cooking habits. If I didn't hate cooking this would be easier, I think. Anyone wanna volunteer to come be our chef?

That's about it for now.

Hugs all around, folks.

Jury Duty??

Not actually, since you have to be a citizen of the US to serve (but the letter doesn't say that). I called the 'for more information' number and asked them whether I actually need to report or not, and they said no.

Paul's car is in the shop (Midas) for the first of two visits for some much-needed repair - rear brakes, front pins and bushings this time around; tune-up, flush all the fluids, new struts all around next time... to the tune of about $1500 or so. Thank goodness for the tax refund!

Ben and I are heading out to apply for a social security number for him this afternoon. That should be an adventure. :op I collected up all his ID and all mine too for good measure, along with the marriage certificate... hopefully that'll cover their requirements and this won't be too much of a pain in the arse.
