C’mon. He’s Batman. How can you not be interested? The epitome of human ability, he’s smarter, faster, better-looking and richer than you, plus he will kick not just your puny ass, but the puny ass of any punk (or superhero) who crosses his path. The Dark Knight, protector of innocent, walking on the thin dangerous line between law and justice. His moral code is absolute. It’s just not *your* moral code.

21. costumes
I grew up in theatre. My Mom was a costumer. I love good costuming, pretty much no matter what the excuse for it. Also, I have come to decide everyday clothing must be regarded as costuming, or it’s just boring.

27. fairy tales
I remember being really quite *little* and reading the “real” versions of fairy tales–the ones where Sleeping Beauty gets pregnant and Cinderella’s slippers are fur; the ones where the little mermaid died (I *hate* that story) and Briar Rose…ok, I don’t remember what happens to Briar Rose. But I loved those stories, and I love the Disney versions, too. Fairy tales have a lot of power to them, for all that they’re supposedly simple stories.

35. hiking
You know, left to my own devices, these are mostly not at all the ones I’d choose to talk about. I’m not a real hiker. I’m a walker. But I like being outdoors and climbing trails and ducking under branches and climbing over dead trees, so there you go.

42. Jim Henson
I came late to being a Jim Henson fan. Never saw the Muppet Show, never saw the Muppet movies, but I had a boyfriend who got very emotional over Henson’s death, and it made me kind of curious. Plus, of course, Labyrinth, the Dark Crystal, and more lately, Farscape. I’ve come to really adore the Henson magic as I’ve gotten older.

49. movies
I didn’t watch lots of movies at the theatre as a kid. Lots of them at home, yah: musicals and … musicals, mostly. :) As an adult, I really love the Movie Theatre Experience. I’m not very picky, either. Mostly I want to be entertained. It doesn’t have to be high art or even necessarily good art. It has to be entertaining. I remember being around 15 and going to a movie with my friend and when her Dad picked us up he asked if it’d been a good movie. I said no, not really, but I’d enjoyed it anyway, and he thought it was interesting that I was aware of the difference there. (The movie was Can’t Buy Me Love, FWIW.)

63. Robin McKinley
Robin McKinley was one of the first fantasy authors I’m consciously aware of reading. I was assigned THE BLUE SWORD as one of the books for the Battle of the Books in 6th grade, and oh how I loved that book. Still do. Her retold fairy tales are some of my favorites ever. Her latest, SUNSHINE, made me augh because *I* want to write like that!

70. Stargate
I’m the only person on the planet who didn’t know Jack O’Neill was played by MacGuyver, but that’s ok. It’s not, perhaps, a great tv show, but it’s very, very consistent, which is sometimes better than greatness. Plus, I love all the characters so much that I can never decide which one’s my favorite. Mostly it’s “whoever is on screen right now”. :)

…I miscounted somewhere, because I’ve got 84 interests, and so X-Men is my 84th, but I’m not going back to see where I screwed up.
