has a draft she wants to finish by month’s end. I want to finish the HANDS OF CHANGE draft before PCon. We’re going to make a mad dash for the finish line over the next few weeks, though I think is about 800 times more likely to actually *reach* the finish line than I am. I’d have to actually do a chapter a day for 20 straight days (not quite straight: I intend to take weekends off) to pull off finishing it before PCon. It’s not impossible. It’s not *likely*, but it’s not impossible. :) I’ll give it a shot, and if I don’t make it, well, two week challenges are good.
Anybody who wants to join us can do so at , where I’ll be keeping track again.

Damn your eyes, you’ve inveigled me. I have a novella that I’d really like to finish, and a two-week challenge might just be what I need.
When do we start? (he said, rolling up his sleeves, greasing his knuckles, scowling at the cat…)
Perfect timing. My queries are in circulation, and my writing is so off schedule. I’m in, and this time I’m not flaking.
Aww, poor Barry! Now what’s he done to deserve such a look?
We start tomorrow!
Bravo. :)
I’ve been getting into a big kick of going back to actual text files for everything lately, and I’m starting to hear the siren call of this program:
http://www.codealchemists.com/jdarkroom/
But I don’t have any specific goal yet*, so I’m not playing this time. :)
* Things like a presentation for a computing social issues class, a sermon, and of course the next Sturgeon’s Law notiwthstanding.
Catie – Would you mind if I linked your official site to mine? http://www.jennmoffatt.com.
Can I just sign up to read a chapter a day? :)
not at all. go for it.
You’re on, then. What’s the protocol: daily wordcounts, as it’s such a sprint?
*stares at DarkRoom and WriteRoom* Mercies, it’s … kind of like writing in XEdit.
I’m in … but not with Dead Man’s Shoes. The stuff I generated during the last two week challenge needs to rot in a box for a little while.
I’ll shoot for a completely revised chapter of No Place To Go a day. :)
Yeah, in truth it’s a lot like hiding your smokes from yourself in the toilet tank, or whatever, which is an approach I usually have a lot of disdain for. But I have to admit, on the other hand, when I used it it was kind of nice. Flashbacks to using a z19 terminal 20 years ago. :) But it was really pretty pleasant. So maybe there’s something to that approach — put the blinders on and get after it.
To be honest, I’d rather be able to pick my own text editor, though. If I could fullscreen vim — and I mean REALLY fullscreen, like JDarkRoom — that might do the job. Talk about your flashbacks to college, though. :)
I did just discover PuTTY, which I use to log into my Linux machine, has a full screen mode that does exactly what I just said. VERY interesting. Sadly I can’t find a way to just make the Windows port of vim do the same thing itself…
The things we do. :)
I typically post daily wordcounts, myself, or if I’m going for a specific number of pages, I’ll post that. However, given that everybody’s end goal is different, the whole thing is rather free-form. Whatever works best for you as a visible count/percentage/inspiration toward your goal is what I suggest using. :)
Any chance you’ll have a draft of HoC for me to have a look at at the con?
*peer* HoC? That’s one of my books. Do you perhaps mean Chance? :)
By HoC I was meaning Hands of Chance. What else is also HoC?
Oh dear, I’ve got too many titles. The Chance project is Take a Chance. The “Hands” project is HANDS OF CHANGE, the third book in the trilogy I’m working on right now. The “HoC” project is HOUSE OF CARDS, which is the second book in that trilogy. :)
Oh, and yes, I will be bringing a copy of Chance with me to the con. :)
