Oh all right, I fibbed. I said I’d only post about Kickstarter stuff on the 3rd Tuesdays of each month but it turns out I can’t resist, especially because not mentioning things except monthly makes me feel like I’m neglecting some stuff I’m enthusiastic about. :)
First Up! Judith Tarr, aka /dancinghorse, is in the last hours of her LIVING IN THREES revision project. It’s less than $400 from $6K, which will get all subscribers a before-and-after look at the manuscript & revision process. I said this once before about a different reward level, but let me reiterate: this is like being offered a master class in the revising process for five bucks. If you’re a writer or even vaguely interested in the writing process, I can pretty much guarantee this is going to be a fascinating insight, and Judy’s one of the best writers I’ve ever read, so…yeah.
She’s also written up the story of LIVING IN THREES, and how it came to be a Kickstarter project. I think the story itself is great insight into the publishing industry, and it also shows vividly the kind of wonderful place we’re living in right now, as far as artists doing new things is concerned :)
Up Next! Laura Anne Gilman, aka /suricattus is just shy of the halfway mark in her new Kickstarter, which is for two novellas in the Cosa Nostradamas universe. Two! Novellas! For $9! They’re stories about Danny, a rare half-breed faun, and Laura Anne’s been doing the whole ‘agh no brain must wait til the Kickstarter is at least HALF FUNDED before you actually start WRITING THESE!’ like she did with the last one, which makes me go squee, because there’s nothing so fun to read as Attack Books. :) So, er, let’s get that thing to halfway so she can start being squeaky and writeful!
And Finally! Half the people I know are involved in the Emerald Serpent shared world Kickstarter, which is less than $400 from full funding and which will get everybody a new shared-world anthology, a la Bordertown or Thieves’ World. Juliet E McKenna (aka /jemck) has got some excerpts of her own and from others posted, as has Harry Connolly (aka /burger_eater) over here. So it’s going to be a lot of good stuff, and…and damn, I just like Kickstarter, you know?
All right, I will now try to restrain myself for another couple weeks. :)

Catie…thank you so much for posting about these projects. Knowing that you are involved in something or you know all the people involved makes me trust it much more and thus I am very happy to support most of these. I really LOVE Kickstarter as a way to support different projects that have an audience but maybe not one big enough for traditional publishing.
