Possibly the best headline ever: Skywalkers in Korea Cross Han Solo. :) Despairing of WORLDBREAKER’s pacing, I gave up and printed it out today to sit down and read it through, convinced I would need to cut 10K from the first 30K in order to make it readable. Fourteen out of 19 chapters in, I’m pretty sure what it needs is to be 120K long, instead of 100. The pacing actually seems really good–there’s one scene that might need cutting, or it might be setting up for something later in…

Cranky Geek Girl is Embarrassed
Sideshow Collectibles has redeemed itself. Not only did they respond politely to my snarky email, but in fact, a Neytiri figurine–not maquette, but statue (or what they call “premium figure”, which evidently are normally 1/4 full size O.O), it looks like–was announced in mid-December and is in pre-production. In my defense, apparently their search function doesn’t include their blog, which seems to be where it was announced. The artwork is still in way-preliminary stages, but it looks like it’s going to be hot. *saves pennies, sheepishly*
well, sorta
I got absolutely nowhere with WORLDBREAKER today, but finished the copyedits on DEMON HUNTS, so it’s a sort of successful work day. Well. Actually, it’s a quite successful day, because it turns out I’m really happy with the book. It’s possibly my favorite of the series so far. I think you guys are gonna like it. In the meantime, I dunno if WORLDBREAKER’s problem is just that I’ve been genuinely sleepy or if it wants me to go back and do revisions before it’ll let me go on. If I’m…
slip-slidin’ away
The promised snowstorm has not materialized, but it’s warmed up enough that everything is slicker than snot. Our cabbie could not get up the hill leading out of our estate (he was giving it waaaay too much gas, and should have been aiming for the narrow band of still-snowy not-yet-ice at the edge of the road, neither of which we, the Alaskans, felt he would take well if we mentioned) until Ted got out and pushed. The normally 35 minute walk home from the gym took an hour, for heaven’s…
blogs, award nominations & writing
I’m guest blogging over at Temple Library Reviews about some of the differences between writing comics and novels. Thanks very much to Harry for inviting me to come play at his review site! As reminded by several persons, THE PRETENDER’S CROWN has been nominated for the 2009 David Gemmell LEGEND Award for Fantasy. It’s on the long list, which is incredibly flattering, and it would be even more flattering to make it to the short list. My understanding is that voting between now and March will winnow the list down,…
