Yesterday I went into one of the second-hand shops and found a vintage 1970s (don’t look at me like that, the 70s are vintage now) full-skirted ankle-length red leather coat for fifty quid. It was one size too small. Not one “if I knock off fifteen pounds it’ll fit” too small, but one “it would require major reconstructive surgery either on the coat or my shoulders to fit well enough to lift my arms more than thirty degrees” too small. *Totally* unfair. However, if anybody reading this has a burning…

whew.
I have just realized today is the 11th, not the 19th. Since about last Thursday I’ve been suffering from the belief that it’s a week later in July than I thought it was, and have been increasingly unhappy about having apparently lost a week and having gotten no damned work done–I was thinking “Shit, I overdid it in June, I got nothing left for writing brains”–but no, I just had nothing left for reading a calendar. Seriously, I even put weight loss stickers on next weekend on the calendar. Totally,…
Science Fiction Social Club revisited
I appear to have this urge to actually try to, like, get the word out about a Science Fiction Social Club*, and am trying to figure out how best to do that. There’s apparently at least a small, perhaps dedicated, Steampunk scene in Dublin, and it seems like that would be a good place to reach out to, except I can’t find much of a focal point for them (the Ferocious Mingle Market may be the best place to start) (Or possibly standing on a street corner shouting “I know…
strong female leads
I am–because I’m sick of being fat and wish to put together a collage of inspiring shapes–looking for suggestions for actresses* whose biceps make you go RAWR. Physically strong female characters, but not Buffy-style strong: Buffy kicks ass, absolutely, but she’s tiny. Scarlett Johannsen looked terrific in a black leather catsuit in IM2, but I wouldn’t actually be all that worried if she threatened to punch me, and I dunno, Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider maybe but there’s a difference between visible muscle because you’re buff and visible muscle because…
The Science Fiction Social Club
Tonight I went to a meeting of SF geeks. After about 45 minutes, we determined that the point of the meeting was to determine whether or not there was any interest in having meetings. *laughs out loud* At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that there appears to be some interest in having meetings. To that end, although actually sort of coincidentally or complimentarily rather than derivitively, The Irish Hat Girl is beginning a “Book Drop-In” in August. It is not a book club. Book clubs, as she…
