Daily entry 8/18

As Ted said a couple of days ago, “Losing weight isn’t what’s hard. What’s hard is changing your habits.”

For some reason that’s really stuck with me. I feel like I actually am changing my habits, on a variety of levels. For example, I would really generally have something good for me now than have sweets (where sweets equal cake, candy, ice cream, cookies, that sort of thing): pineapple or apples or grapes or other natural sweets are much more appealing to me now. When I do have, say, ice cream, I’m likely to choose frozen yogurt instead of actual ice cream, if it’s available. Those are good changes.

I’ve become pretty stubborn about measuring out my food portions. Turns out a half cup of mashed potatoes is really quite a lot, for example, and most times I really don’t need more than 3oz of meat. I take more glee in eating vegetables than I ever have before, because I can eat LOTS of them for very few WW points, and I get filled up. I put berries on my cereal now, which is just unbelievably weird for me. I’ve gone back to childhood and I have an apple with my lunch almost every day now. I eat baked potato chips instead of fried ones (they’re not as nice, but they give the salt/crunch kick) and I make my own oven fries instead of eating shoestring fries from a bag.

The worst part about doing Weight Watchers, for me, is that I simply will not drink skim milk, so I’ve basically stopped drinking milk. I *love* milk. I try to get enough activity points to “earn” an 8oz glass of 2% milk a day (3 Points), but I’ve sort of stabbed myself in the back with that the last month or so. I stopped counting the first 2 miles I walk on any day as APs, because I walk 2 miles almost every day and I figure it’s habit more than exercise at this point. So that’s 1 or 2 earned activity points that I’m not counting, which cuts into my milk. :P It’s one reason I’d like to get down to my goal weight. There’s a maintenance program after that, in which you add points back into your diet until your weight stabilizes, and I am plenty willing to continue eating the way I’ve learned to, as long as I can have my *MILK*, dammit. I want those points back! Grr.

Ok. Better now. o.o

  1. I think you should definitely be counting those two miles of walking into your AP!

At least you should try it, drink your milk, and see what happens. You have a low enough target POINTS that consuming those extra AP may actually *help* you lose.

  2. Yeah? *wibble* I’ve been going back and forth on it. I really miss the milk they let me drink…

  3. I say go for it. Besides, the extra calcium is always good for you in a number of ways.

And there have been some studies recently that have linked dairy consumption with increased weight loss!
