every shop in cork

I think I went into every shop in Cork today. I spent over two hours looking for something appropriate to wear to the Saturday night banquet. The sole thing I found that would have worked–a lil’ tuxedo-y jacket sort of thing–they did not have in my size. And I *hate* shopping. It was not a pleasant morning. :p

OTOH, we did meet up with for lunch, which was much nicer than tromping around and failing to find anything to buy. :) We then had a bookstore accident at Other Realms, and picked up s1 Dr. Who, Supernatural, Rome, and S2 of 4400. We’re nearly done with S5 Smallville, which we’ve been enjoying immensely, although Ted, at one point, said, “I’m getting a little tired of Lana.” I said, “That’s because you married a Chloe.” He looked all surprised. :)

Man I’m tired. I’ve had a headache most of the day and finally drugged myself and now I think the pain relief is conking me out.

Maybe I’ll go watch a movie. *sigh* I have to get back to work tomorrow–I told my editor I’d turn in revisions on COYOTE DREAMS before I went to WFC (though, y’know, she’s going to WFC too, so it’s not like she’ll be at her desk waiting for it/reading it, but I’ve got to give editing TQB my best effort *immediately* after getting back from WFC, ’cause it’s due to my other editor on the 15th, so I kind of have to get the damned revisions done before WFC like I said I would, and yes, I am trying to convince myself, why do you ask?), so I only have 4 days to get it done–and the idea of spending tonight staring at a tv screen is more appealing than the idea of staring at a computer screen…

November 10th. That’s the finish line…

  1. It took him until Seaons 5? I was tired of Lana in Season 2. At least in the current season she’s becoming more interesting.

  2. Sorry the shopping was lousy. Realistically shaped women aren’t catered for much in Cork I think (as you can tell from the number of pudgy girls who go round stuffed into clothes that are not only too tight but just don’t fit them anywhere).

I doubt you would tget much done tonight with headache, post-shop malaise and meds in the system. Better luck tomorrow. The weather looks like it will be conducive to staying in.

  3. The Lana/Clark relationship was the one in the early seasons that Ted most sympathized with, because he was familiar with Clark’s position, so yeah. I, otoh, sympathized with the Chloe/Clark relationship, so. :)

  4. Heh. The first season, I liked everyone. Lex, however, was what got me through pretty much every other season but this one. (Oh and Pete but then he vanished. Sad.)

This season, I have a new favorite. *grins*

  5. You know, that thought struck me in particular when I went into one shop. Forget which one, but I just found myself thinking, “Wow, I so shouldn’t be in here at all,” as I looked at the Incredibly Skinny Jeans (and the Extremely Skinny Women who /did/ belong in there. Except for being way too old to wear those clothes…).

I’ve been working under the assumption that those pudgy girls just plain don’t know any better, not that they don’t have the option to buy clothes that fit…

  6. Well, yes, the reason to keep watching Smallville is Lex, not anybody else. We all *know* how Clark grows up to be Superman, but *damn*, how Lex (in the Smallville universe, anyway) grows up to be Lex Luthor is a *really good story*!

Augh! Tease! I won’t get to see this season until this time next year! :)

  7. I’ve been working under the assumption that those pudgy girls just plain don’t know any better, not that they don’t have the option to buy clothes that fit… Well my option is kinder but your hypothesis is probably more likely given the sort of ill-fitting clothes that most of them choose to wear. However saying that too often makes me feel like and old grouch so I try to vary my abuse a little.

  8. I like the choices in DVDs to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed S1 of Dr. Who… well except for the last episode of it. Rented the first disc and had to turn around and buy the series.

I just rented Rome, haven’t gotten a chance to watch it yet. Probably might get in an episode tonight, if I’m not plotting out my story.

I never did watch Smallville. But then again I didn’t watch Lois and Clarke either. I was never much of a Superman fan… I like my heroes like X-Men… deeply flawed, but able to get by inspite of it.

  9. Well, the truth is that humans aren’t well-known for their brilliant fashion choices throughout history. I’m not even sure teens bear the brunt of bad fashion choices, though in the modern day they may…

  10. I’m not much of a Superman fan myself, but wow, if you want to watch flawed heroes, you really *should* watch Smallville, just to watch Lex’s inexorable downfall. It’s just agonizing. I love it. :)

  11. I think my favourite fashion excess is the Pompadour wig. The idea of having a hairdo so huge and daft you can put vases of water inside it to keep the flowers in the wig alive longer is just surreally insane. Of course it meant sleeping standing up and keeping the damn thing on for days on end but all in the service of beauty and the marriage mart hey?

  12. Oooh, I’m so excited that you got Supernatural! I can’t wait to see what you think of it. It’s my FAVORITE show right now, bar none.

I think Lex’s character arc stalled in season 5/6, or at least is on a very small loop. But he was the reason I was so intrigued with the show from the beginning, too. His development but also his relationship with Clark. Now I’m loving the new relationship that has replaced it this season (that’s all I’ll say) but I’m hating that Clark has very little screen time.
