I went and jumped in the sea this weekend, it was that hot.
…the sea, for the record, was VERY COLD and I wish I’d brought goggles, a thing I purely didn’t think of when I went to jump in. As it turns out, I also wish I’d brought ear plugs, because the water in my ears HURT and IDK if that’s because it was so cold or if my ears have become unreasonably sensitive, the latter of which will displease me considerably, but can be dealt with if I actually start swimming again, like, ever.
But! in a good news scenario, I did a bit of actual swimming and the “I can’t do crawl stroke” (backstroke is fine) tension in my shoulder is…almost gone. I need at least one more PT session on it, and it’ll be part of my upcoming (probably next month) test session with a local PT instead of going to the literal other side of the country to have my regular, beloved PT work on me. For the record, I saw her on…June 25th? And she worked my shoulder over so hard I still have a faint bruise almost 3 weeks later. But it helped a LOT (and that was AFTER the first session she’d worked on it improved it to an almost miraculous degree) and I think full recovery may be in my future. If the local person can’t sort it, I’ll go back to my regular lady at least to get that dealt with, but normally seeing her is a 2x a year treat at most bc it is, in fact, the literal other side of the country.
Another good news thing is that deciding I’d go jump in the sea led me to find out that I do have a swimsuit that 1. fits, and 2. is not falling apart, which removes a barrier to starting at the swimming pool. The next barrier is getting there, but I’m working on developing the stamina to do that.
Anyway, it was HOT. Record-breaking temperatures on Saturday (30C/85F, ~65% humidity), almost that hot Sunday, unsleepably hot last night, my god, the sweat. I shall spare you the details. We drank a lot of lemonade, and I spent a reasonable amount of time drawing, and oh, we saw Superman, which I was largely quite happy with, and which even my husband, who d e s p i s e s James Gunn, generally liked. Rachel Brosnahan is hands down my favorite Lois (Teri Hatcher is the only other even in contention), and David Corenswet made a good, good-hearted, Superman. Just what we needed, IMHO.
Anyway, I’m back in the saddle after melting all weekend, and I’ve had a not-very-good mocha from the new coffee shop next to my workspace (I socialized at work! I’m so proud of myself!), but it definitely DID have more caffeine than I’m used to so right now I’m Quite! Perky! and should probably put that enthusiasm toward words in this book instead of words in this post. :)
