time, what is time, i have no time, how do i get more time, if only i didn’t need sleep so much. also, yes, I know, this is a bit late in the month for a State of the Cate, but what can one do about tiiiiiiiime.
Right, okay, so. Uhm.
May was very productive, in huge part because I retreated to a friend’s house and wrote 50,000 words. Then I got sick with a head cold and was just sick enough to feel sorry for myself and not get work done without being REALLY SICK, so I did not write another 35,000 words, which had been the hope, but I did get about 14K more written on the next paranormal romance, so that’s good.
I am currently embroiled in More Admin, although a lot of it is actually “one small thing and that project is done” levels of admin, I just didn’t get to it last month because of the aforementioned cold. And I’ve promised myself and my family that I’m taking time off this month, which I’m going to hate because I’ll end up behind. Behindeder than I already am, which is…I mean, I need to recalibrate my idea of “behind,” at this point, because I’m going great guns on every front and getting a huge amount done, I just have these LINGERING PROJECTS that I want to get to. If I could, like, cut myself a break and say “those things are history that will not be finished” or even mentally move them into a space that says “this is a someday thing” rather than “this is a malingering thing” I wouldn’t be behind at all. You know, so if I could just totally rewire my brain to do that, that would be great.
Um, anyway, where was I. Admin. So, right, part of that time off is going to be teaching my husband how to do a bunch of the admin, which, yes, I realize is not really time off, but it’s not writing, either, and I’ll never do it if I don’t use ‘time off’ time TO do it. And once I get him up to speed on it, it’ll move maybe 60-70% of the admin onto HIS plate, which will give me a considerable break. Even if I’m wildly overestimating that and it’s only 40-50%, that’s still a LOT that can be moved off my plate.
So that’s the State of the Cate for the moment.
