It’s only 2pm and I’m pooped.
Ted and I reclaimed, or more accurately, laid claim, to the kitchen/dining room area this morning. I finally packed up the last box of kitchen stuff that belonged to the landlord and we put it in the little storage shed in the back yard, which proved (to my surprise and relief) to be capable of holding all those boxes of kitchen stuff. Then we put all of our own stuff away. *Most* of it had been away, but the kitchen table was piled up with stuff, so we were eating off a corner of it, and the sheer number of boxes stacked around just made it very small and cramped. But now everything’s in its place and gosh a’mighty the kitchen table (which is generally hidden under a (n ugly) tablecloth) is ugly. It’s almost like real people live there, or something! Yay! I even put a calendar up, thereby claiming it as My Territory, or something.
We also made a stab at the living room. Most of the random bits of junk that were lying around have been thrown out now, and things have been straightened up a bit. It’s an improvement, though we have not vacuumed. We really should. The floor is gross. But right now I’m feeling as if we’ve done enough for one day.
We went to the grocery store and spent all the money in the world, so if you find yourself out of money suddenly, well, I’m sorry, but we spent it. It was one of those “we have run out of important essentials like paper towels and olive oil” weeks, which are always pricier than your run of the mill week. There was also a fair bit of “oh hey grapes” and “hm I wonder if this cereal is edible” sorts of things, which I note you do not fall prey to if you’re planning to walk home with the groceries. And thank gawd we didn’t, because hauling them from the cab to the kitchen, a total of some thirty feet, was plenty. We put groceries away, which is a bit of a challenge because there’s only one cupboard that can do pantry duty, and it’s not a particularly large cupboard, and are doing more laundry. A busy day.
Nook Ireland is put together. Because this house doesn’t have anywhere to put a screen arm up, the screen is actually on a desk (Shaun’s old one), which means I’m going to have to be careful to not pile it up with crap. I’m trying to avoid that by piling it up with knicknacks instead. :) The big plus to having the desk is that it means I now have a footrest, which is one of the things I’ve been needing, and having a footrest means my lap is flat enough that Lucy came to sit and help me write yesterday while I was getting the keyboards angled correctly and things. It’s best to write with a kitty. :) The only down side of Nook being set up again is it means I really have no excuse to not start working again. Except those 8 books I haven’t read yet…
Speaking of which, I read THE DECOY PRINCESS, by Dawn Cook, last night. It was a much, much better book than I expected it to be. I was expecting it to be a piece of mindless fluff, which was exactly what I was in the mood for, but it turned out to have plot and characterization and was really very enjoyable. I’m goin to have to get her other trilogy, which also look to be kind of run-of-the-mill fantasy, but if they’re as well-written as this was, they’ll be worth it.
There is a small problem with getting a book to read and kicking back to read it: I am pinned beneath my laptop and a very purry Lucycat. She’s gotten much more lovey since Shaun went away and she hasn’t gotten swooped up and randomly snuggled as much. She’ll now follow me places and climb up on things so she can pat at me and say, “Pick me up!”
Oh! I got another page from my artist. It looks gorgeous. I’m going to wait til I have five or so, then start looking for a digital inker. Donno quite how that part will work, but we’ll figure it out!
I’ve decided to take the route from Rauros Falls to Isengard with Merry and Pippin, and then from Isengard to Minis Tirath with Gandalf and Pippin, because going from Mount Doom to Minis Tirath is an eagle ride, and doesn’t allow me to type “miles to Minas Tirath”, which I like to type. I like the sound of it. :) Of course, I have 355 miles between Rauros Falls and Isengard before I can start typing miles to Minis Tirath, but that’s okay. I think I will do all the legs of the other characters’ journeys before I walk back to Bag End. Which means it will be a Very Long Time Indeed before I get back to Bag End, but that’s okay. :)

Ah HAH! I insist, most sincerely, that you convert to miles to Minas Tirith because, as anyone from the great fellowship of Louise’s Room will tell you, Minas Tirith is a (possibly former) student house four-five blocks away from here. And I shan’t tell you which road! AHAHAHAH! Mizkit will have to VISIT to find out where to go!

I took a while to adjust to the Decoy Princess, since the back cover had clearly promised fluff and then all of a sudden people started dying. I did like it, it just took a while to stop thinking “That can’t happen in this book!”
I remember not liking the first book in her other series very much, but I think that’s partly because it didn’t have an ending.
I read two of the Dawn Cook Truth trilogy (is it a trilogy? I thought there were four books or more). I didn’t care for the two books mostly because the heroine didn’t grow much as a person and I really took her in dislike. I felt sorry for the hero. A lot.
I just assumed there were 3 because that’s all I’ve seen. :) Hm. Ok, so noted. Thanks!
No kidding! I wasn’t very far into it before I said to Ted (who had read it before I did), “This isn’t nearly as fluffy as I thought it was going to be!”
Yah. Ardian doesn’t do inks, and while his pencils are beautiful and amazingly tight, I think it’ll need an inker. If you need Photoshop, something could possibly be arranged… I didn’t know you did art stuff!
*laugh*! I’ll start walking miles to Minis Tirath as soon as I can! 349.5 miles from now! :)

I actually just finished reading The Decoy Princess a couple days ago. After a shaky start I really got into it and finished in a matter of hours. There was a lot less fluff than I had initially hoped for, but I will have to read the next book in the series when it comes out.
