For those of you who come in through the mizkit domain: yes, I know it’s down, and I’m trying to get it fixed. Of course, if you come in through mizkit.com, you’re not seeing this anyway.
Since I’m at it I’m trying to decide how many of these domain names I’m sitting on I really need. The realistic answer is probably 3 (plus my sister’s Dance of Yoga), and even 3 is separating out cemurphy.net and kitsnaps.com, which are…well, kitsnaps gets updated with photos, but there’d be more interaction if I folded it in to mizkit.com. cemurphy rarely gets updated, and I maintain it out of this idea that I *should* have a separate professional account, but I do need to make it more active.
I very likely don’t need takeachance.org, onyourleft.org, lastangelstanding.com, or mizkitproductions.com, but damn, those first three are good domain names! Of course, I’m probably unlikely in the extreme to do anything with takeachance; it’s likely that any updates about that project will always take place on mizkit.com or to a lesser degree on cemurphy.net. So why hold on to it? Similarly, onyourleft and lastangelstanding are attached to dreams that won’t come to fruition for a long time, and they’re just sitting around doing nothing. OTOH, if I let them go I’ll probably never get them back.
God, what a hoarder I am.
mizkitproductions can probably go, partly because nobody’s likely to ever snatch it up, but mostly because if I really need it in the future, I can run it as a subdomain on mizkit.com.
catedermody.com I should probably keep because I do have books out there with that name on ’em. It redirects to cemurphy.net anyway. Which I may or may not inherently need, too… :)
Yes, well, probably a lot of sturm und drang over nothing. I think I’ll go wrap some Christmas presents.
There’s always the options of signing up as a reseller account with the registrar of your choice to maintain the list at a discount — or to horde it over friends who haven’t made the great leap from web designer to illustrious literary figure…OK, so maybe I’m a bigger fan than history has yet to see you for.
Groovy domains, even if the takeachance.org immediately has me thinking of another author, Karen Chance, rather than anything with actual risks.
I’m glad you posted this here, though, ’cause I went to log in to uncatchable and post that we got here okay and … what do you mean it’s gone? I also can’t get to the website of the guy who lives a couple miles away, who has a webcam, so that I can see if (at least in theory) our house still has power, ’cause I hear that there are power outages in Milwaukee, so I was a little worried. But hey, Kit’s got it under control. :)
Yeah, this mess would probably be me. For some reason, the hosting company decided to bill me for the entirety of the account instead of splitting mine off into my own account and I wasn’t thinking when I mailed them to say, “I have no idea what this stuff is, but I don’t think it’s mine.” As it shows up on my AmEx, there’s no way to tell what’s what else I would’ve caught this a lot sooner.
The Billing Dude won’t be able to fully fix this situation for the next three days, but I’ll make sure to let him know there are other people involved and that you’d like your site back thankyew.
Er, Merry Christmas anyway.
It wasn’t your fault at all. It was theirs. They entirely screwed up, the dipshits.
Merry Christmas to you too. :)
