pretending to be someone who sews

In my ongoing quest to pretend I’m someone who actually sews, I bought some fabric and a couple of patterns today. One will work just fine, but my plan was to do the other, which looked really quick and easy, first.

Buuuuuuuut the very quick and easy looking one didn’t have the outer envelope for the pattern, so I wasn’t absolutely sure what kind of fabric I should use. I thought probably a knit.

Somewhat unfortunately for me, upon the advice of the woman at the shop, I did not get a knit. I got a very cute lightweight denim that I now actually really want to make the dress from. However, upon getting home and looking the pattern up, YEP, it calls for a knit. And it has no built-in easements for if you don’t use one – like, no buttons, no zippers, etc.

It does, however, have a cute back feature which I believe could make it pretty easy to make one shoulder a button-close, which would provide…some, perhaps enough, wiggle room. Literal wiggle room. :) Between that and maybe cutting it a bit loose, it might just work.

I’ve asked the advice of someone who will actually be able to tell me if it’ll work, so I’m not looking for suggestions. What I’m actually doing is being REALLY ANNOYED that I know for a fact the best way to find out if it’ll work is to do a mockup with an old sheet and not risk the cute fabric on it, but the whole POINT was to be able to do it REALLY QUICK AND EASY and doing a mockup is the OPPOSITE of that and SULK. :p

Also, obviously, it’s not as quick and easy if I have to modify the pattern to begin with. I do also have a knit I could try it with, but…now i donWANNA, i WANNA do it the HARD WAY or something i guess

why are brains, man
