The thing I miss most about wearing contacts is the cold splash in the eyes first thing in the morning. About a decade ago an eye doctor told me I was wearing my contacts too much and that I was starting to grow extra blood vessels in my eyes and that I needed to stop wearing them so much. About six or seven years ago, I stopped wearing them so much (never let it be said I like to be told what to do) and while I still dislike wearing glasses for the same reasons I always did, I’ve gotten used to them and mostly only put my contacts in when I go out into the world. (The real problem was all the staring at a computer screen and not blinking, and boy, my eyes get tired fast now if I’m wearing contacts and looking at computers.)
But man, I really miss the wakening sploosh of putting them in. Cold water on the face, or even drops in the eyes, just doesn’t have quite the same effect.
Perhaps there is a gap in the market there. Someone should invent soluble contacts one can just put int he eyes to help wake up every morning. Heaven knows i could use something with that effect.
My eye doctor just told me the same exact thing just yesterday (went in for new contact prescription :o) I need my contacts). She gave me a new kind of contact lens to try out, its supposed to allow more oxygen through to the eye (that’s why the blood vessels start reaching towards your pupil), as well as new cleaning solution to keep them from drying out (not much we can do about the allergies- much worse this year than before). But I know what you mean, nothing quite wakes you up like putting in the lenses (and being able to see past the length of your arm).

Have you tried the newest Acuvue type? The Oasys brand is seriously fantastic. I wear my contacts every day (am too lazy to get my glasses updated), and wow, do I love the oasys contacts.
I have no idea how easy they’d be to get over there, but I can wear these things for 12 hours and my eyes really only start to hurt if it’s dry out, or if I’ve really been staring and not blinking for a long time.
Hmm, I wonder if that’s what has happened to me. I can’t wear contacts daily any more, I get red patches in my eye.
My vision’s not that bad, so while the world gets blurry, I can navigate without a problem. :) But yeah, after 7 years of not doing it most days, I *still* miss that ritual. Good luck with the new contacts!
Betcha it’s something like that. I’d think an eye doctor would be able to tell you.
I haven’t. Maybe I’ll ask about ’em next time I get contacts. I think at this point I’m pretty much beyond the habit of working (ie, computer-staring) with contacts in, but man, I miss that sploosh. :)
Except I’d expect to be able to see, too… :)
Ah … obviously my comment sprang from the smugness of one who can sort of see OK already but who often wishes she could take out her eyes and give them a good rinse off.
