art project: done vs good

I’ve realized that I’ve got two goals which are arguably antithetical to one another. :p Goal One, which has been in the forefront of my mind, is that I want to do my silly little web comic, which even I recognize I was good enough to DO before I started this 100 Hours project, even if I didn’t feel I was good ENOUGH by my own standards. But I’ve now drawn enough again that I feel like, ok, I probably CAN do it. Unfortunately, what I’ve realized is I also…

art project: materials

A few people have asked for this, and far be it from me to deny my audience :D First question: what course would I recommend for people who haven’t drawn in a really long time? Answer: Technically speaking, everything you could possibly want to learn is available for free somewhere on YouTube. I, however, lack the capacity to FIND all that material and not be overwhelmed by it, so I used courses that somebody else had put together. And yes, that does say courses, plural, because I can’t do anything…

art project: 92 hours and… done?!?!?

Holy crap! I accidentally finished the coursework! The last section was definitely an overview and only took a couple hours, and now I’m flabbergasted that I’m finished! I HAVE mentally committed to 100, so I’m going to do some more anatomy stuff, but good heavens! And the truth is that if I hadn’t done all the face/head work stuff, I’d have finished at about 80 hours, probably. Which is fine: I’d figured I would finish earlier than 100 hours, but even if it had taken me the whole 100, I…

art project: 80 hours °o°

I cannot believe I’m at eighty hours. Nearly done. That’s amazing. I’ve spent most of the past ten art hours on Loomis heads. They’re something I’ve been aware of but don’t remember ever being taught how to draw, and…it has been A Learning Curve. I wanted to internalize it so I can do it consistently and, y’know, hopefully well, at some point, so it’s gone kind of… I did the first assignment and it wasn’t TERRIBLE, but the second lesson was…well, it was the first time I felt that the…

art project: 70 and counting

Aight, this wraps up my Udemy course, which, weirdly enough, I started one year ago today. Even if I hadn’t started doing this project, I’d still drawn more in the past year than I had in MANY MANY years, so all by itself that’s pretty satisfying, but this project means I’ve finished it, after buying it EIGHT YEARS AGO, and that I still have about thirty hours of practice in front of me. I thought the bricks turned out pretty cool in that one, and I’m informed the skull is…
