Aight, this wraps up my Udemy course, which, weirdly enough, I started one year ago today. Even if I hadn’t started doing this project, I’d still drawn more in the past year than I had in MANY MANY years, so all by itself that’s pretty satisfying, but this project means I’ve finished it, after buying it EIGHT YEARS AGO, and that I still have about thirty hours of practice in front of me. I thought the bricks turned out pretty cool in that one, and I’m informed the skull is…

art project: goals & … goals … :)
In a recent chat with my husband about what I wanted from this art project, I said, “let’s face it, in terms of influence I’m—” Ted: starts laughing Me: What? Ted: I’m waiting for you to say ‘landing somewhere between Wendy Pini & Jim Lee’ and…well… I mean… o.o Me, vaguely indignant: well i was GOING to say Elfquest and X-Men, not Jim Lee specifically, but…yes……. I mean, I’m never going to be as good as either of them, but still, it was both funny and spot-on. But so anyway,…
Art Project: SIXTY hours!
Me, grumpily, to my husband, as I stared hatefully at all the upcoming “how to draw a REALISTIC tree/bird/frog/skull” things in my art project: do you know who else was a major influence on my style? PATRICK NAGEL. YOU KNOW. THE GUY WHO DID THIS KIND OF ART: Not gonna lie, guys, every step of this last ten hours has been a S T R U G G L E to get myself to do. I do not care about drawing realistic trees or photo-accurate cityscapes. I despise grid drawings.…
art project: whoa-aaaah, we’re halfway there
Against all odds (as far as I’m concerned), I’ve hit the 50 hour mark in the 100 hours project. I genuinely figured I’d crap out in the first twenty hours or so & have been baffled by peoples’ supportive conviction that I would, although my friend Kate pointed out people are REALLY ACCUSTOMED to seeing me finish creative projects, which, true! But those are BOOKS! I start & fail OTHER creative projects in public all the time! I tell you what, though, I like this so much more than knitting.…
art project: 20 hours!
I have – against all odds, IMHO – reached HOUR TWENTY on this project. One fifth of the way done! Perhaps I have a chance of seeing it through! Or not. 80 hours is still a Very Long Way To Go. I’ve been working my way through more basic shapes and shading, moving slowly into one-point perspective. Because I’m determined to do it the hard way, or…honestly, it’s more that I’m trying to LEARN things that I’ve only half-assedly learned in the past, but anyway. Point is, I’m kind of…
