Last night I was feeling pretty pathetic and out of ideas for the last few stories in the Old Races Short Story Project (Part One), and moaned at Ted about not knowing what to write.
An hour of brainstorming later I had three story ideas for the first part and one for the second, and today I went into Dublin for the purpose of voting, but since I was going anyway, also to write, and got 4K done on a new story. It’s got another couple-three thousand words to go, probably, but hopefully I’ll be able to do that over the next couple of evenings and get it out to the patrons just before the end of February. And then I just might write the other two (and possibly even one more after that, as somebody else just gave me an idea I liked a lot) so they’re done and I’m not working so close to the wire anymore. @.@
So the ORSSP, as indicated above, has two parts. Part One is Year of Miracles, which will be a collection of stories that take place before the Negotiator Trilogy, and which are anchored by the titular novella. There’ll be ten or twelve new and reprinted stories in the collection, and I’ve just hit 80K on it, which means I probably technically only *need* two more for the wordcount I want, after I’m finished with this one. Three would make it a dozen stories, though, and that’s a nice number, so we’ll see. Anyway, if things go as planned, which has not happened AT ALL the past twelve months, the print and e-book editions should be available around July. Ish. But you can read the stories early at the Patreon page! :)
(The second part will be Kiss of Angels, a post-trilogy collection of etc and anchored by the titular novel(la, frankly i hope it’s a novella, but we’ll see), which will be the Grace O’Malley story. I have more stories that need writing for that one–5ish short stories and, y’know, the novella, so it’ll take a while longer, but it’s in the works and will, in theory, finish setting up the world for post-Aftermath novels. If I feel like doing that. :))
After writing I–well, I went and got some new backs for my earrings because I keep losing them, and ended up having a brief, sympathetic conversation about losing them with the guys at the piercing shop, which is only worth mentioning because I always have a nice time when I go in there. :) I also went and got a little shoulder massage, and honestly I haven’t been fully awake since. I’m pretty sure I could have actually fallen asleep in the massage chair. Despite that, I went out to dinner with friends, which was very, very nice. I know lovely people, and we ate so much that I honestly feel like I shouldn’t need to eat again until Thursday. Or at least Monday. Also, you know that thing where you’ve been drinking gallons of water but you still feel cottonmouthed? Yeah.
If I’m at all smart I’ll basically kiss Ted hello when I get home and go straight to bed, especially since we ran out of heating oil and the house is going to be cold anyway. :p
Just now, on the train:
Woman, loudly into her phone: Hello?
Man beside me, quietly: is it me you’re looking for?
Me: *beams at him*
Him: Thanks.
