Recent Reads: Fake Flame: very cute.

This is a a fake-dating book that has the brass tits to actually examine the trope of fake dating from within it own pages. Our Heroine, an English lit teacher, is being harrassed by her ex who won’t take no for an answer; in an attempt to get rid of him, she ends up almost setting a piano on fire, and Our Hero, a firefighter, arrives on the scene.

Sparks, as one might say, ensue. Our Hero ends up offering to be her fake boyfriend in hopes of driving the ex away, bc hey, you know how men are, and what follows is a good sexy romp through a lot of family stuff and some pretty good Journey Of Self-Discovery territory. I really enjoyed this, and will look out for more by the author, who handled the entire story with skill and humor. (And oh, I see a second book in the series will be out in October. BRB, preordering.)

Fake Flame by Adele Buck: available lots of places, link should be universal but the internet’s being stupid right now so who actually knows

You can’t fake heat like this…

To an observer, hauling a piano onto a college campus to publicly serenade an ex might seem like a romantic gesture. To literature professor Eva Campbell, it’s the latest manipulative move by a cheating idiot who won’t take a hint. Plus, she never liked that song anyway!

Setting the piano on fire might be an overreaction, but Eva’s at the end of her tether, at least until hot firefighter Sean Hannigan talks her down. And then he’s offering to be Eva’s fake boyfriend to get her creepy ex off her back.

Sean battles infernos for a living, reads romance on the side, and is a straight-up, family-loving good guy. Eva’s not sure she’s ready for the danger he poses to her jaded heart. But, despite their differences, the line between real and fake keeps blurring…
