Picoreview: Deadpool & Wolverine

Picoreview: Deadpool & Wolverine – did EXACTLY what it said on the tin, which was EVERYTHING I WANTED

I generally try to keep my picoreviews spoiler-free, but I’m mentioning that specifically on this post because it’s still a relatively new movie and if you want to veer away entirely, you should, but I won’t be spoiling anything. (I may very well do another post next month with spoilers, but for now, no.)

I’m not a particular Deadpool movie fan, tbh. He’s too violent for me, even if it’s borderline cartoonish violence. I didn’t DISLIKE the first movie, but if I’ve seen it more than once it’s only incidental, and the second one pissed me off at the outset and I don’t care if they spent the rest of the film trying to rectify the event that pissed me off; I have had enough of that event, and I’m past any kind of excuses to make it better. And that’s too bad because I love Josh Brolin and I thought he made a great Cable and I wish I could have enjoyed the movie he was in more. :(

But the point here is, I’m not your target audience for Deadpool.

…I am, however, your target audience for Deadpool & Wolverine. o.o

Look, I shouted with laughter, I groaned, I shrieked, at one point the whole audience (an IRISH audience, which doesn’t do this very often, but also, a MIDNIGHT SHOWING Irish audience, so if anybody was gonna, it was gonna be these guys) burst into spontaneous cheering applause.

It was the part that came after that, though, that spoke directly to my soul. :D

Actually, no, we cheered at two points, but it was the first one that had the follow-up that had me quivering with anticipation. :D

Honestly, it was just fun. It’s over the top, it’s violent, it’s fourth-wall-breaking, it’s funny, it’s crass, it has an unexpected amount of heart, it’s exactly what it promised to be.

Also: this is the most Wolverine Hugh Jackman has ever been. The age and anger work really, really well for him as Wolvie, and he’s never been hotter or more believable as the character. I loved him.

ALSO-also… no, I’ll keep that for the second spoilery review in a while. But HONESTLY! :D

Fairly sure this is one of those “either you’re going to love it or REALLY NOT” movies and which it is, is between you and your gods. Me and my gods are gonna go see it again tomorrow. :D
