Just got the PHOENIX cover.
It’s not … *bad*. It really isn’t. It’s just a bit shocking after the other two. It doesn’t match. It *does* look like standard-fare Bombshell covers, and mostly what it says to me is the line’s been cancelled so they opted not to put the time, effort and cash into these covers.
It makes me want to see if I can sell the other books in the series somewhere else, and get the *next* trilogy to have matching covers…
They could have at least made an effort with the font…
It’s not … *bad*. . . . It doesn’t match.
*nod* My thoughts exactly.
what it says to me is the line’s been cancelled so they opted not to put the time, effort and cash into these covers
*nod* That’s likely very true. Bummer, though.
I don’t picture Leesh dressed that way. She doesn’t wear berets.
And yah, it doesn’t match. But maybe people who pick it up will think it’s a second edition.
Wow, that’s jarring. And makes me sad, as a book buyer. I like having my covers in a series all match if possible. :}
That’s actually exactly my problem, too. It’s not even from the writer POV on this one. It’s, “MY BOOKS WON’T MATCH,” and ‘my’ doesn’t compute as ‘book I wrote’ there.
It’s…ah…very different…and wierd compared to the others. Well this isn’t saying much that hasn’t already been said. That reminds me I need to dig through boxes and boxes of books to refamiliarize myself with our heroine in anticipation of this *funny covered* ones release.
And this will NOT be a book that I judge by its cover. ;-)
It still looks eye-catching. All the best with it.
Ouch, my condolences.
Looks too garish and . . . I don’t want to be mean towards the person who did this cover, but it just comes off as pretty amateurish compared to the first two. Definitely lacks the polished look of the others.
On the bright side . . . YAY FOR ANOTHER BOOK FROM CATIE!!!
No, that isn’t as good.
If the line is being dropped, will the rights eventually revert? Or are they just not buying any new titles.
Perhaps you need to have the whole of the next trilogy ready at the same time, so you can have one artist doing one thematic style in one go. But do get something a bit more distinctive than the Trudi Canavan ‘Black Magician’ series:
I can’t tell which one is which from the covers, because all three have a bint in a black hooded cloak holding a staff.
Oh, I’ve just worked it out. She’s saying ‘SEX’ in semaphore.
The rights will eventually revert. I believe it takes about five years. I’d have to look at my contract to be sure, and it also depends on whether they decide to do things like an omnibus edition or something (though that seems unlikely, given that the line’s been cancelled).
Ah, but they might do an omnibus if you’re hugely famous in a few years’ time. :)
I’d prefer they didn’t and I got the rights back. :)
Does this book have a kid in it? ‘Cause that’s what I see on the cover. Very disappointing. :(
