I’ve just had a debate with my mom about this article, which I think has great points, and which she thinks is hyperbolic. She would like it to be “How to get better at anything!” instead of “Six keys to being excellent at anything”, which is probably a fair distinction. Either way, I think the points espoused are very good ones. I particularly like #2 and #6 (#1 seems obvious).

The problem with making costumes from ElfQuest is that basically they look like humans dressed up as elves. These two, however, are by far the most elf-like cosplayers I’ve ever seen: Aroree and Winnowill. Well done them.

For some reason the other day I was rem–oh, it was because I was reading THE LAST HOURS OF ANCIENT SUNLIGHT, which I’m trying to write a review of–reminded of The Village, an Irish ecovillage. I would really, really like to live somewhere like that someday. The problem is I’d want all my friends to live there too. It does strike me, though, as the sort of thing that all of us artist and writer types who keep saying “Man I’d like to live in a commune” would potentially do well in. Especially since part of the point of it is somebody else is setting it up. :)

“Year of Miracles” has reached exactly 10,000 words. I am extremely dubious about it coming in at 30K, which is what I was hoping for. I’m afraid it’s going to be some kind of no-man’s-land of 40 or 50K instead. I mean, SFWA calls anything over 40K a novel, but nobody would publish a 40K novel (except Subterranean Press…). Anyway, now I have to go back to writing short stories for the Old Races collection.

I need to do laundry. And a metric shitload of dishes.

I think I’ll go for a walk instead.
