Kickstarter begins an hourly countdown at 72 hours, it turns out. It’s down to the last 48 now, and the “No Dominion” campaign has broken $16.3K.
This, to put it in perspective, is only $700 less than the most I have been paid as an advance on any single book that I’ve sold to a traditional publisher. Roughly 450 (it’s very close to that number now!) ordinary people have very nearly matched what a New York publishing house pays me.
And it’s market value, too, because what I’m expecting to deliver at this point is on the order of 90,000 words. That’s a novel’s worth of stories, though it’ll be broken up into 3 chapters of a book that doesn’t exist, 4 or 5 short stories, and two novellas. Again for perspective, the Walker Papers novels run between 105-115,000 words, so: yeah. Wow.
I mean, *wow*. I’m completely amazed by this. The campaign’s 400+% funded. I did not see that coming. I really really didn’t. I thought there was a reasonable chance of hitting $12K, because I thought people would want the trade paperback, but I just did *not* expect it to go much beyond that. Holy *beans*, guys.
The “guess what the final # will be, win a short story” contest for patrons is open for another 24 hours or so, so get your guesses in and maybe you’ll get a Walker Papers story of your own. :)
Oh. And also, *laughs* I promised someone on Twitter that if the campaign broke $20K, I would do a video for the patrons of me singing “The Wind Beneath My Wings”. So this is your chance to buy in if you want to see me do that. :)
