Probably a blog post of tiny proportion, because it is dependent on how long Young Indiana naps, but I’m going to make a try for it! :)
NYCC and its surrounds were terrific. I met a lot of readers (and missed a few, which is absolutely tragic, and if you were there and I missed you I’m terribly sorry). Among some of the highlights were my honest-to-God first fan ever, someone who read the teaser chapter for URBAN SHAMAN off Jim Butcher’s website before the book was even out, and who emailed me to say he was looking forward to it, who I did not have nearly enough time talking with! and the lovely woman who came to my Saturday evening signing and, um, was forced to spend the whole hour talking to me. I wouldn’t let her go. :) And lots and lots of others, a lot of whom went to specific trouble to locate me and oh, I’m so happy to have met all of you, that was terrific. <3!
Also very splendid meals with agents, editors and friends (with a particularly grateful look at Laura Anne, who took pity on my "I accidentally walked 12 miles on Thursday and am utterly wrecked" self and took me to a diner in midtown instead of to our previously arranged uptown Turkish meal). A lot of business got discussed and a lot of fun was had, which is pretty ideal, if you ask me. :)
I had two--no, three--celebrity sightings. One was Seth Green, who was walking behind me just as I glanced over my shoulder. Cleverly, I said, "That's Seth Green!" and everybody who was with me said "WHERE" but the crowd had eaten him by then, because he is very small. But cute! And Eliza Dushku was signing at the booth next to mine on Saturday evening, and people kept saying to me, "You're on that side of the table, do you think they'd throw you out if you went over to say hi?" I didn't know, but I didn't try, either. :) She's prettier IRL than on TV, I think. And tiny.
The best and funniest one, though, was the guy who was at the table I was supposed to be at on the Saturday. They were hanging out a bit late, and I wasn't going to be pushy and chase them off, but Kirby, who was like #1 Entourage Lad, TOTALLY DID. It was some guy from 30 Rock, a recurring character, and Kirby was all like "This is the new talent, all y'all get outta here," and they apologized (and the actor fella shook my hand), and Kirby got to tell him he enjoyed his work, and then chased them away. It was awesome. :)
I totally had an entourage. Kirby, Mary Anne, Spidey & Lei Ann all basically came up to hang out with me (though Lei Ann had the good sense to go get pictures with, like, Jason Momoa and stuff instead of just hanging out with me), so I had People, and the People actually went and did stuff for me, which was really kind of awesome. :) And it was great to have people to hang out with when I wasn't on duty and was just walking the floor, and they all totally understood that if business erupted they should step away for a bit, and did just that, so it was about as great as it could get.
I didn't see Belle Chere, which is too bad, but I got a bunch of pictures of cosplayers (including an *awesome* Tenth Doctor), and I’ll get them posted…as soon as I can. :) There were a few other people I also didn’t manage to connect with, but I *tried*.
*laughs* I don’t know how many pictures of me got taken that wold emphasize this, but my friend Mary Anne, after seeing me on a panel with my Rogue stripe and hair up in a pony tail and all, said, “…actually you know, you kinda look like Anna Paquin for real!” Which I’d heard before and then heard again over the weekend, but Mary Anne’s known me forever, so hearing it from her particularly was nifty. :) (I don’t really look like Anna Paquin, but I do sort of. She’s got much more jaw, but we both have good cheekbones and kind of small features and full mouths and similar noses, so…yeah, there’s a resemblance, and the Rogue thing plays it up.)
This picture, however, does not play it up:
I’m sure there’s a lot I’m failing to write about, but I’m going to close out with saying I have VERY EXCITING NEWS ABOUT ELECTRICITY! and I will be giving more details as soon as, um, as soon as I’ve talked to Fred a bit about it, but VERY EXCITING NEWS!!!!!!
