Killarney looks like someone went around to American tourists, asked their opinions on what a charming Irish village should look like, then came back and purpose-built it to suit those imaginary visions. This was taken from on top of the Commodore Hotel in Cobh, looking back over the town. Really, my favorite thing about this picture is that my high school photography teacher, Pat Dixon (whose website features his own version of the exact same photo), was in Ireland and we got to go out taking pictures together, nigh unto twenty years after I’d first been his student. I took this last week with the new telephoto lens. That said, I was about 15 inches away from the swan in the foreground when I took it, so it wasn’t exactly a situation where I needed the telephoto, and I rather wish that for this *particular* shot I’d had the 50mm or even the wide-angle. But I didn’t, and I like the picture anyway. :)
