Neil Gaiman posted on Twitter to say “I am sitting in an Indianapolis Starbucks writing a speech in a moleskine notebook. I feel like a lazy writer’s idea of what a writer does.” This amused me inordinantly. :) I think it’s what people who want to have written think writers do. And people who talk about needing to Feel Their Muse before they can write. “Sitting in a coffee shop with one’s notebook,” said my Mom, “waiting for The Muse.” “Staying out of the sunny windows and growing one’s hair…

conversations with my husband
Having just spent over an hour discussing this stupid book with Ted, I went into the kitchen to try to find something yummy and junk-foody to eat. There is, of course, nothing at all of that nature, because we’re Being Good and this is what, day 12 of no sweets. I curse and mutter and swear about not being able to find anything I want to eat. Ted, recognizing the behavior in a way I wouldn’t have: You’re stress eating! Me: Well, I’m TRYING TO!
Argh.
Reluctant to write this morning. Know perfectly well my reluctance is because I don’t feel like the ending is integrating with the rest of the book. Spent half an hour faffing around, looking at email, Twitter, FB, LJ, then chatted with Soula in the war room, where I admitted to knowing what was wrong, how to fix it, and not wanting to, because I just want to get the damned draft finished. “Can you pretend it integrates?” she asked, but no, I can’t, never have really been able to do…
solar-powered
Evidently I’m solar-powered. I did another 5300 words today, bringing the book up to 81K. I think it may come in a little short, but if I can get it somewhere between 95-100K I’ll be happy. The rest can be dealt with in revisions. We are on day 10 of no sweets. I would do rash things for some ice cream. I said as much to Ted, who promptly volunteered to go get some, so he seems to be feeling the same way. But we remained strong, and now the…
go me.
Apparently I ate my Wheaties this morning or something, because I had 3K written by noon and finished the day with 5200 words. Furthermore, thanks to that one chapter mostly requiring revision rather than writing, the book, which was at 67K last night, is now at 76K. I will not finish it by Friday, which was when I hoped to have it done, but there’s some hope I might get it done by next week. Then I went out into the…well, not sunshine, really, but at least daylight, and finished…
