In an homage to the Jasper Fforde character who is beleaguered by poorly constructed sentences, while I was out walking the dog today, a man drove by in a car wearing Stetson cologne. Frankly, the fact that I could smell and identify the cologne so easily leads me to feel that insisting the vehicle was indeed wearing it is not an unreasonable thing to do. That’s just too much cologne, when random passers-by get a good three or four breaths of the stuff, plus one lingering whiff after the car…

I gave up. I got to 5200 words and nominally finished chapter eleven (and have less nominally officially hit the 1/3rd mark, YAY!), but I know that the truth of the matter is that tomorrow I’m going to have to go finish this scene, which really finishes chapter eleven, and it’ll turn out that *everything* I wrote earlier today as chapter 11 is going to be chapter 12, which will be nearly finished once it’s been cut and pasted into place. Right at this moment I feel rather like ,…
we don’t need no stinkin’ logic!
Here I am, marching along (not chugging today: not enough momentum), and man this scene’s getting long and the chapter’s not the longest but if this scene doesn’t end soon it’ll be rivaling the longest and whew, finally hit 3K for the day and chug chug ok can I wrap it up here no not really but if I go back and fix something *goes back and …* And wow, that transition is really ugly. Rrrreeaaally ugly. Like, ugly enough that *I* don’t get what happened. Ok, how to fix…
to be or not to be
To be or not to be morally superior, that is the question. Whether it is nobler to write another 9 pages or so and hit the 1/3rd mark, or to stop now when my wordcount is an exact and therefore amusing-to-me 5K. Nothing wrong with stopping now, and if I do, there’s plenty of time to shower and go into Cork to buy some fresh froot this afternoon. Nothing wrong with not stopping now, either, though I really do want that shower, and frequently showering interrupts the writing flow in…
Tammy rules.
My friend Tamara Siler Jones has been saying sensible things about writing in her blog lately. The most recent, “Time for Discipline,” just rules. People who’re having trouble buckling down to write should go read it. (I’m looking at you, .) Erm. That’s about all I’ve got to say. I’d best take Tammy’s advice to heart and go to work myself. :) miles to Isengard: 149
