Help me, intarwebs, you’re my only hope!

Tell me, Intarwebs: do I want a HTC Desire Android smartphone? I kind of want a smartphone (I’m torn on whether I want it for always-with-me photography or for, God help me, organizing meet-ups via twitter or whatever, but I kinda want one), and Ted’s got a coworker selling an HTC Desire for about half the new price.

Reviews are pretty good, except for the battery life is apparently quite poor. So anybody got experience or opinions on the matter themselves?

  1. My experience with any of the Android smart phones is the battery life sucks because of the screens. They eat a TON of power. It seems that is a limitation that we all have to make peace with…other than that they do a ton of useful things really well.

  2. Had my HTC desire for about 12months now…wouldn’t change it. Battery life is not a problem for me (or for my other half who also runs a desire). Keep away from the live wallpapers and tweak a few of the settings and its possible to get about 48hrs between charges.

  3. I have the Motorola Droid 2 and the only time when I see a significantly large drain on the battery is when it’s in location mode, i.e. when using Maps, GPS navigation, etc. in the car. I charge it on a cradle so if I’m at my desk I stick it on the cradle to keep it topped up (it also displays the time super big for my poor eyesight when cradled which is a huge plus) and if I’m in the car I plug it in if it’s under 100%. I have never had the battery totally die on me but I always make sure that it’s on charge at night. I have MP3’s playing on it most of the day and I use the Kindle and Facebook apps a bunch.
