~here comes the rain again~

*watches rain come pelting down*

Clearly I need to invest in a pair of break-up boots (or wellies or whatever they’re called here) and an excellent raincoat.

Where does one find these things in Cork? :)

ooh! And while I’m asking, where does one find jars for jamming, too?

  1. Is recycling jars an option? If so I will gladly start keeping them again. My Mum used to take all suitable jars off my hands but has got posh in her old age and now only uses one kind of honey jar.

For raincoat I would try Matthews (Matthews’ corner near Paul Street) – just as good as Great Outdoors and a lot cheaper, or else there is the Chandlers on Penrose Quay, but I always go to a creamery for wellies. Is there a creamery in Cobh? There’s one in Carrigaline but there must be one nearer to you than that.

  2. I don’t even know what a creamery is, or why they would have wellies!

I suppose recycling jars would indeed be an option if I knew where to get *lids* for the recycled jars, as you can’t re-use the lids…

*beam* Thank you for the info!

  3. A creamery is a farmer’s co-op shop. On checking the golden pages there don’t seem to be any in your part of the world so I guess forget that.

Mum does recycle the lids. She just chooses metal lids and ones that don’t have the paper insert and she has never had any problems with moul on the jam after wahsing and oven sterilizing them (in fact the current lids are plastic so I have no idea how she manages that). If she wasn’t frantically packing to go to the UK tonight I’d ring and ask her. Remind me in a week or so.

Failing that you can get kilner jars in the Kitchen shop near Milano’s on Oliver Plunkett St.

  4. Really! Huh! I’ll have to give the lids thing a whirl.

Ahahaha! I shall go SHOPPING soon!

We must meet in person sometime. Soon! :)

  5. …assuming you don’t find the idea of meeting expat Americans in your town too alarming, anyway. :)

  6. Great outdoors have loverly wellies.. I’ll be getting a pair of said wellies….. Great outdoors is just at the end of Paul St. On the corner by the CoalQuay (I would have pronounced this Coal-Kay)…

  7. Also there are 2 kitchen shops in the City centre, and if you can’t get Jars they may be able to tell you where.

One is on Oliver Plunkett St. and the other is on Carey’s lane.
