introducing the zimmers

Ok, so earlier this evening I saw this article on BBC about a guy who made a documentary about old people’s lives in Britain. He met about forty old age pensioners, many of whom were pretty miserable living in care facilities or tower apartments, and he got ’em all together and found a record label willing to take a chance and they recorded “My Generation” as a single. And the video’s had 2 million downloads on youtube and the single was released today. Their lead singer is 90. I’m totally downloading the single. :)

  1. oh that is insane! I’m going to have to download that too.

  2. I’ve just watched that documentary as well. Absolutely heartbreaking how some old people are treated – and the fact that prisoners get treated better than people in old people’s homes.

The making of the single though was inspiring. :)

  3. Tell me about it. I do ministry work in old people’s homes, and although the ones I go into are in their own field relatively good, in an absolute sense there’s only one I could imagine being okay to live in when the time comes, and no possibility that I could afford it. People stuck in chairs lining the outside of a room with no stimulus just breaks my heart. Sometimes they cry just because we care enough to go see them.
