The Noughties

Ten years ago tonight we were trying to figure out what the hell to do for The Big Night, and ended up going down to Anchorage city centre to watch the fireworks and listen to the Native drummers bang in the new millennium. Actually, that was a fairly cool way to start it, and it’s one of the few times in my life I haven’t more or less been reading a book, looked up at seven after midnight, and said, “Oh, hey, Happy New Year,” and gone to bed. (This…

hah.

It’s the little things, I tell you. cemurphy.net is redesigned with all the lower pages tucked into the new format (except IMMORTAL BELOVED, which I have some intention of making into a PDF rather than thirty individual HTML files). I’d kind of intended to Launch It At Midnight Of The New Year, but apparently decided I couldn’t be bothered to be that dramatic. Anyway, so that’s sorted and I don’t have to think about it anymore. WORLDBREAKER has reached 28.2K. I expect I’ll hit 30K tomorrow, which is…well. If not…

aww gone

My bwain is aww gone. Mostly from spending a lot of the evening doing grunt-level work on website redesign (almost done, but I don’t suppose anybody’s got some kind of nifty code thing that would strip HTML from 30 separate files and combine them into a reasonably manuscript-formatted .doc file? I have narrowly broken 25K on WORLDBREAKER.…

Jane Yellowrock-Joanne Walker Crossover Fanfic

Faith Hunter has given me permission to go ahead and post the story snippet I wrote up a couple days ago. She and I are now discussing the possibility of sometime in 2010 actually collaborating on a novella which would be set outside both characters’ timelines/real worlds–in other words, pure fanfic, except written by the authors themselves–to put up either as a commission like I did with “Hot Time”, or simply sell as a direct market piece. People should respond to this post and let us know if you’d be…

good books

I have, over the past couple days, read Faith Hunter‘s Jane Yellowrock books, SKINWALKER and BLOOD CROSS. They’re the most enjoyable urban fantasy I’ve read since I started writing it myself, so basically they’re the best urban fantasy I’ve read in ten years. This is not *only* because Joanne Walker and Jane Yellowrock would get on like a house on fire, although that doesn’t hurt. It’s not just that they’re wonderfully well-researched–which, given that Jane is a skinwalker (ie, shapeshifter) of Cherokee descent, was exceedingly likely to run up against…
