17K over the last 3 days is nothing at all like record speed for me, but it’s enough to make me feel like I’ve done enough and should be done now. Not feeling the writery love today, partly because I got up later (having gone to bed much too late, O Foolish Author) and just plain not having as many words done as early in the day is kinda moopy-making. Plus I’m kind of farting around on a scene that’s not really all that hard to write. I feel like I’ve Done Enough.
So it’s Pep Talk Time! Here, you go, some insight into the psychology of a writer:
By gosh, Catie, you’ve already written 800 words, which is nigh unto twenty percent of what you have to do today! And once you hit twenty percent, then by gum you’ll be *a fifth done*, and hell, it’s practically all downhill from there! Why, twenty percent done puts you nearly halfway to halfway done, and everything after 2500 words is a breeze!
Why not challenge yourself a little? It worked like a dream yesterday, didn’t it? 1000 words every 45 minutes, and then you get to take a 15 minutes break before you have to go back and do it again! And you only have to do that five times! Heck! Another 200 words and you only have to do it four times! That’s not so bad, is it? *Anybody* can write 200 words. Certainly *you* can write 200 words!
(C’mon, everybody. Talk peppy to me. I’ve got two more chapters to get through and I’m draggin’ ass. I’ll be grateful for the rah rah rahs.)

And oh, how familiar this-all sounds. I don’t tackle quite the numbers that you do, but I’m sitting here with one page written before breakfast, one between breakfast and shopping; I have now shopped, and just one more would give me a thousand words before lunch, which is always an achievement because I then only have to write another thousand in All The Rest of the Day!! to be content, but of course there is the option of more. And right here, right now, with an hour easy before lunch, I could write not one but two more pages, which would be such a good start to the day, I could hardly fail to write three thousand before bed…
Etc. So yay you, and yay me, and yay everybody else out there, and go all of us, onward and upward (if we don’t spend too much time hangin’ out and peppin’ each other on LJ…).
Just that LJ post was 275 words, and that was a piece of cake to write. Just imagine what you can do with writing for profit! (the carrot)
And if you don’t get it done, there’s no nice food on Tuesday. (the stick)
I can wave my pom-poms, but I might get arrested for indecent exposure, so I’ll stick to a quick “ra, ra, ra!”

Rah Rah Rah! GooooooOOOO Catie!!!! Yaaaaaay! aw heck – now I have pom poms stuck in my teeth.
Anybody can write 200 words! Especially when it is raining outside and Sundayish with it. Perhpas you could shoot up the road in your 15 minyte break to buy some ice-cream? Comfort food is a great incentive – much better than carrots!

Wow, was it raining there? It’s gotten a tad dreary looking now, but it’s been beautiful all day over here. I’m thinking of making an apple crumble tonight, which is almost like having ice cream! :)
These aren’t typical numbers for me. These are “you decided you were going to WFC and that means you Must Have Everything Done By 30 October numbers”. But yes, *just* like that! That’s why getting up early and writing seems so important…

I’m so glad you said this o.o.
These are so far from typical numbers for me, I nearly died when I read your word count yesterday. If I’m writing 2K words a day, I’ve done a lot. You’re either going to inspire me, or I’m going to crawl away into a corner of LJ land and bang my head on one side of the wall. Or hell, both.
And I’m still going to WFC …
*laugh* These are numbers I’m capable of in short bursts and consequently seem to think I should be capable of *all* the time. I’m starting to wrap my brain around the idea that one does not necessarily follow the other. I do write fast, but I rarely have 6700 word days and I’m always very pleased when I get my wordcount up that high. No banging your head on the wall!
I’m really looking forward to meeting you at WFC. *beam* I’m bringing CAST IN SHADOW to have you sign it (I have to buy COURTLIGHT there; I haven’t been able to get it in Ireland yet, and I’m *dying* to read it, as SHADOW was one of my favorite Luna stories so far).
