My agent recently linked to a post by John Scalzi about finding the time to write. The gist of it is “Do or do not, there is no try”, and several people said “It’s not that simple.” John’s point is that it is, in fact, that simple, but that one should not confuse simple with easy.
I feel like I’m finding a lot of simple things to be not particularly easy at the moment. There’s a whole lot I want to get done. Most of it is simple. Finish my coat, which is only cut out. I haven’t even read the sewing instructions yet. This is not hard, and yet. Clean up the lanai. Again, simple. Get 1K a day written. Keep the house clean. Start Pilates again. Start recording my mileage to Rivendell again (that one’s not only simple, but also easy. I’m just not *doing* it).
I had big plans for today to be the Day I Started Doing Shit. I was going to get up at 6 with Ted and do my writing in the 60-90 minutes before Young Indiana woke up. Except the alarm didn’t go off and I woke up at 6:45 and said “Shit!” and Ted leapt out of bed and rushed around like a mad thing to get to work on time, and I didn’t get up because hey, it was already too late to write. I was going to stop eating sweets, but Ted (quite understandably) didn’t have time to grab the cookies I made last night to bring them to work, so I helped myself to three for a morning snack. I was going to do Pilates, but my back is screwed up and is worse today than it’s been.
It’s a bit disheartening for one’s good intentions to explode before one even wakes up in the morning. :p
Oh well. At least I’ve gotten my orange tree cleaned up and watered.
I know this is a little off topic but have you ever thought about which famous people would play your characters if the walker papers got turned into a movie?
