Goodness. Image Comics just turned Chance down. I’m completely taken aback, mostly because I didn’t expect to hear *anything* from them. It’s a direct little rejection letter saying, in essence, “Good try, but not good enough.”
On the positive side, I just turned the galleys in…
(eta: let me mention that I’m not crushed, destroyed, or hurt or anything. I’m really just startled. I’m sort of like, “Well then! Guess that’s that!” O.O)
Did they give you any feedback or was it just a straight rejection letter?
Nothing of any use. He said:
“Thanks for giving Image Comics the opportunity to review your proposal. It’s obvious that you’ve put a great deal of time and effort into this book – but I don’t feel that it’s quite strong enough to make it in this competitive market. I wish I could go on at length and give you a number of pointers to help you improve your book but I can’t. We simply get too many proposals for me to be able to critique them all. The bottom line is that, unfortunately, your book isn’t one that we’re interested in publishing.”
Fair enough, from their perspective.
Too bad they can’t give you feedback, but I imagine they have all they can do to get through submissions as it is….
So where to submit next?
Fair enough from mine, too. One doesn’t much expect feedback, and I didn’t even think it was necessary for him to say that. :)
Dark Horse or Avatar, probably. Maybe both. :)
Wha? I’m shocked – it’s both gorgeous and gripping! Oh well, they’ll be sorry later! It’s not like it won’t find a home!
But…but…don’t they know you are Famous Author C.E. Murphy? :)
Good luck with Dark Horse. I always thought Image was crap. *haughty sniff*
I *told* them I was…! :)
*laughs* Thanks. I’ll keep everybody posted. :)
Not gorgeous and gripping enough for them, I guess! My faith in the book isn’t shaken, so yeah, it’ll find a home soon enough. :)
