Zilli, the darling idiot, jumped or fell out of the second floor (first floor for you weird Europeans) window all the way to the ground, and has badly sprained, bruised or broken his right front paw. It’s all swollen up and he’s favoring it, and when we tried to look at it he yowled. He appears to be otherwise fine; when it became clear he was favoring that leg we both held him and very carefully checked his whole shoulder and leg with gentle squeezes to see if he protested, and he did not. He has a vet appointment for tomorrow morning at 20 to 10, but I’m pretty stressed about it.
The place we looked at was pretty cool, but the old lady who’s renting it is using the third bedroom as a storage room for her stuff. She’s also planning to be gone for “at least a year”, which could mean anything, and we would (really, really) like somewhere that we don’t have to move out of in 12 months’ time. In fact, we would really, really like to not have to move again until we decide to buy a house somewhere.
:P
Meep! Poor Zilli! I am sure he will be fine, though!
Good thoughts for his healing, and your reduction in stress.
Tangent: Some time ago, the New York Times had a science article on cats which had fallen out of windows several stories up. The ones who hadn’t been able to brace themselves against the falls did better.
They later ran an explanation that the researchers hadn’t experimented with the poor cats, but had looked at cats who’d fallen by themselves. Apparently, some cat lovers had misunderstood.
It sounds like Zilli’s okay–our Mowzer had a similar episode recently–but I know you’ll feel better about it after the vet looks at him. Good luck!
Poor kitty, hope paw improves quickly.
And I call the second floor the second floor — blame the weird brits for any deviation =)
Poor kitty! Have you got a good vet out there? Any troubles and I can point you the way of the best ortho-vet for small animals in Ireland who just happens to have a practice in Togher of all places. Anyway, he brought my parents’ dog back from the dead (he nicknamed the dog Lazarus) and is pretty hot on bones and soft tissue damage.
Sorry the house seems less than ideal. Sigh! househunting sucketh!
Oh no!
Today has just not been a good day for anyone! Here’s hoping that Zilli is better soon, and it’s just a sprain. :(
Poor Zilli!
I have two kitties… and one of them tried to jump off of the balcony. I’m on the 3rd floor. Luckily I caught him before he jumped and then I yelled at the person who left my screen door open wide enough for kitties to go through.
Aw man, poor kitty. :( Hope he heals up okay!
