things! all the things!

I’m having one of those days where I’ve got a bunch of things bubbling away and none of them are ready to talk about and so what I’m left with is just wanting to seize people and say “I KNOW SUCH COOL PEOPLE OMG LOOK AT THEM, THEY’RE SO COOL!” because I can’t be more specific. Except in a few cases I can. For example: my long-time friend Ellen Million’s coloring book for so-called-grown-ups Kickstarter is heading into its last week and only needs about another $1K to make 10x…

A quick look at Kickstarter novels

Matt Forbeck, who ran a couple Kickstarters last year, has done an in-depth analysis of gauging your chances of succeeding with a Kickstarter novel. If you’re at all interested in this kind of thing (as I obviously am), it’s pretty, er, interesting. :) I did a kind of mock “aw!” when I saw NO DOMINION hadn’t made it into his top ten list, although SPIRIT OF THE CENTURY, for which I shall shortly be writing a novel, did, so, y’know, that salved the pain. Still not doing it…

I’m still not running any, but boy, I sure can think of a lot of Kickstarters that would be fun to do. :) No: there are other projects that need finishing first. ElectriCity

Author Kait Nolan wrote a blog about Kickstarters and platforms (featuring me!), which caused me to go have a look at the most successful fiction Kickstarters. NO DOMINION’s still in the top 15, which surprised and delighted me. DINOPOCALYPSE NOW, which I’ll be writing a book for next month, is still in the top 5. (And Tim Pratt’s latest Marla Mason novel is also in the top 20! Yay!) The whole thing made me kinda want to run another Kickstarter. Kinda. :) I’m not going to (despite somebody asking for…

oh yay!

Judith Tarr is doing another Kickstarter! This one’s space opera. I cannot wait to read it. I am full of joy and happiness that she’s running another Kickstarter, and just *glows* We live in such a cool time right now, for writers (for artists!). The ability to connect directly with our readers, to offer projects like this, to try things we might not otherwise get a chance to…it’s just such an amazing thing, something that ten years ago would have been just about impossible to comprehend, and I’m so delighted…
