workful day

I may have to do that morning post of lonely little word wars every day, as it was unexpectedly successful today. Afternoons are easier, as morning comes on in America, so people start turning up. Anyway, 3K today, a whole chapter, which was the goal. Yay.

Ted nearly kissed another woman at the gym this morning. *laughs* A woman came in a couple steps behind us, and got into the sign-in line before me, but Ted hadn’t seen her. So he signed in and turned around to kiss me, except there was a much shorter blonde woman there instead. Fortunately he wasn’t moving fast enough to plant one on her before he realized there was something wrong, but it was pretty darned funny. :)

Good swim this morning, unexpectedly. One of those rare and pleasant days where I hit the zone as soon as I hit the water, so there was no lactic acid burn in the triceps, and I did my 1200 meters without a break. So that was nice.

Ted upgraded our Vista system to Windows 7, a process which seems to have gone flawlessly in very little time. I have a great raging hatred for the new alt-tab selection process and how it fades out windows, but otherwise it seems okay. At least SimpleMU* runs properly on it.

I should be doing copyedits, but I’m not.

  1. I haven’t made the switch to Windows 7 yet, but I can totally feel my own burning rage at Microsoft’s changes. My personal demon? Microsoft calls it the “Ribbon”. I call it the “Tape Worm”!

MS took the years I’ve spent memorizing at a cellular level the keystrokes needed to activate the arcane features of Word, excel, Outlook, what have you, and just flushed them down the toilet! All some some 5 year old on a Mountain Dew and Twinkie sugar high would find it simpler with a mouse. No, forget productivity for current users! Why would *that* be important? I see no reason to ever upgrade Office again until regular menus are an option. The Ribbon is just madness!!!

OK, that is my vent for the day. Oh, and I hear Windows 7 is very nice. ;)
