would someone please explain to me…

Would someone please explain to me why it is that when I have junk food in the house, I eat it even if it makes me feel bad, and even if I am consciously aware every time I get another piece of it that it is going to make me feel worse? I will, at the moment, attribute part of it to being stressed out, but it’s more like pathological stupidity. And yet I keep making the deliberate choice: yes, I’m going to eat this piece of fudge/this brownie/whatever. *sigh* I’d ask for a do-over, but it’s pretty clear idiocy would continue to reign supreme. :P

  1. What works best for me–because I do this too–is to make tiny portions. That way I get the “want” out of my system with minimal penalty.

Not idiocy, just I think some sort of latent body memory that makes you feel you still want it.

And there’s the stress, of course…gather, gather, prepare for turmoil.

  2. I honestly do a lot better if there’s just nothing in the house; don’t even miss it. I’m just trying to use up food materials in the house instead of throwing them all away, so a bunch of baking is going on. And, miserably, a bunch of eating. :P I’m sending most of it away tomorrow, though.

  3. I don’t want to live in a world where eating something that tastes delicious is considered “idiocy”. It’s a “treat”! :D

  4. I’m with you on the “get thee from me” plan; the times I’ve said, “Oh, I want chocolate. I’ll buy a bag of the little bars and just have one when I’m craving,” I’ve polished the whole damn thing off in two days flat. Pa-thetic, but unavoidable.

I should really give your no-sugar thing a try, but I just don’t know how capable I am off that. o.O

  5. Give the baking away to friends who will love you for it. Then you get to use your foodstuffs and you don’t have the treats around to tempt you too much. :)

  6. If you had unopened foodstuffs, rather than throw them away, can you take them to a food bank? I guess I should have spoken up sooner. That’s what I did with a bunch of our food the last time we moved.

  7. Catie? I hate to say this, but I do the same thing about junk food. Even if I know I shouldn’t eat it, I still do if it’s available. Annoying, isn’t it?
