I will not post this until I’ve hit 2K or the end of the chapter, the latter being preferable. I’m at around 1200 words right now, and am taking a small break to think about where the next scene should be set, because it can’t be set in the obvious place due to reality not working that way. Ten years ago, maybe, but in today’s political climate, nope. Has to be somewhere else. Possibly somewhere civilians can get injured. :)

Trying to convince myself I’m not actually STARVING MEOW MEOW MEOW. The problem with a. getting up early and b. trying not to overeat is that by 11am one is very hungry, even if one had breakfast. And hell, I didn’t get up /that/ early. Just early compared to when I’ve been getting up lately…

Speaking of STARVING MEOW MEOW MEOW, we got a new cat food that Lucy does not like at all. Lucy’s lost a noticeable amount of weight in the last two weeks, presumably because she is now only eating as much as she needs, instead of as much as she wants. She’s spending a great deal of time being *very* lovey and running around our ankles and meowing pathetically in hopes of getting The Good Food. But since this food doesn’t seem to be disturbing Zilli’s delicate intestinal track, and Lucy’s losing weight on it, we’re thinkin’ we’re going to be MEAN HUMANS and keep them on this food. MEAN HUMANS.

Hm. I bet I can set this scene on the train. They’ll just have to time it properly so they don’t get arrested… :)

My shoulder’s getting fed up with me working at the laptop. Physical discomfort is not enough to stop me from writing yet, and after I’m done with this chapter I have plans to walk into Cobh and do some errands, which will get me away from the keyboard for a while. That’ll help. Then I can come home and write some more. It’ll all be good. But I’ll be happy to get this book done and spend some time finishing unpacking and things so I can get Nook set back up and work on /that/ keyboard instead of the laptop.

I spent a fair amount of time yesterday figuring out my writing schedule. There are two schedules. One is the schedule of when everything is Actually Due. That one is dangerous. The other one is the schedule of when I need to have things done in order to not get caught in this “Augh, book due at the end of next week” thing that I’ve had with COYOTE DREAMS and now PHOENIX LAW (though with PHOENIX, it was absolutely inevitable). By the time I was done with the This Is How It Must Be schedule, I could barely remember when things were Actually Due, which is good. The further out they’re due, too, the less clearly I can remember the drop-dead duedate. With any luck I’ll keep myself good and fooled about the whole thing.

Oddly, I find it less overwhelming to look at the working schedule than the Actual Schedule.

Boy. I was looking forward to walking into Cobh, because it was clear and sunny and beautiful out. Now it’s grey and dismal and threatening rain. Darn it.

Back on my head.

thinks to do:
1. find envelopes
2. get apples, grapes, mushrooms
3. laundry
4. go to the bank to:
  &nbsp – change address
    – see about loans
    – get IBAN & routing numbers

(an hourish later): There we go. Chapter 19 done. Time to shower, eat, errand and come back for more writing and laundry. I may hit something along the lines of 58K today. Go team go!

  1. You’re a machine!

PS: your email last week was tres helpful, so don’t think I just ignored it!

  2. I *am* a machine. Chugga chugga chugga chug. :)

Oh good. Glad it was helpful. I’m sure I’ve got something else useful to say, but I’ve been sort of busy since then to think more on it. :)

  3. In our department we’re using that system, too. We never tell the others the Actual schedule, just the Working one, otherwise nothing will be finished on time. Ever. ;)

  4. The awful thing is the company I used to work for told people the Actual Schedule. Consequently, nothing ever got done on time. :P :)

  5. Go Kit, go! Schedules are good.

As to your STARVING MEOW MEOW MEOW for yourself, you should schedule a snack into your mid-morning. That will help immensely. Eat an apple. Or a yogurt!

Poooooor Lucy. She and Toast should form a support group. They are so underfed and unloved!

  6. I usually do have a snack, but I was out of apples and anything else morally worth eating! Meow meow! Poor me!

    *giggles* POOOOOOOOOR kitties!

  7. My boss usually says “deadline is at 3 pm, but tell the others it’s at 11 am.” Then he winks. It’s the only way to get people to actually do what you want and when you need it.
But whenever we’re not sticking to that method, there is no way we’re on time.
