a busy day, in the end

Mmm, if I had a spare hundred bucks I’d get me one of these: a velvet frock coat. Oh, except a 12 would probably fit me best and that’s what they’re out of, of course. A ten might be worth trying if I was slimmer, but I’m not. Ah well.

My feet hurt. I walked about six miles today, which is more than my 14 month old beat-to-hell tennies can take. They’re turning the electricity off here for several hours on Tuesday. We’re thinking of going in to Dublin and going shoe-shopping. (Ted’s mom keeps trying to buy me shoes, but it seems my feet need to be present in order to find shoes that will fit them. They are very wide.)

When I got out of the pool this morning, the lifeguard said to me, “Well done,” and then wanted to know how many lengths I’d swum (they seem to count in lengths here instead of laps, because everybody who’s ever asked me asks about lengths). So I said a little under 80, and she said, “Well done,” again, and we had a nice chat in which I mentioned having swum in a club (which is what they call teams here) before, and she said, “Ah, and are ye after missing it then?” I admitted that I did, and she mentioned she’d swum in a club, too, and that there was one (for adults) in Mullingar that she was thinking of maybe joining in a few months. I think there are probably enough adult swimmers in Longford to make a club, if anybody was organized enough to arrange it (I’m not).

I’ve reached the halfway point on TRUTHSEEKER, pagecount-wise. *waves a little flag* Still have another 4K or so before I reach the 50% mark by wordcount (which is what I actually regard as being halfway), but it’s a nice marker.

And in an attempt to find the music book for my tin whistle, I…cleaned my office. Which needed it. I now have a big box of things to bring to P-Con for the auction instead of a big pile of things. I threw away a copy and a half of the PRETENDER’S CROWN manuscript, found two copies of the RIGHT ANGLES TO FAERYLAND manuscript and a very nice set of colored markers, cannot for the life of me think of a good reason to keep the box full of cover flats, and think I need to get a scrapbook for the writing stuff I want to keep (like the copy edit letter from my Del Rey editor which says, in giant red letters, “READ AND OBEY!”). I got most of my art supplies collected into one place, and if I were to get a very small filing cabinet or even file folder box I would no longer need the Rather Large Box in my office closet.

I did not, however, find the music book. :)
