The GGK Project: THE SUMMER TREE

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!

The great Guy Gavriel Kay (Re-)Reading Project begins! We’ll be reading a book a month, in order of publication, throughout the year. Our first book, THE SUMMER TREE, has 16 chapters, so we’ll be breaking that into an expectation of reading 4 chapters a week in January. I’ll be posting a discussion blog every Tuesday so we can talk about the books and to offer a deadline for people to read to.

I’m very much looking forward to this. I’ve only re-read 4 of GGK’s books (but those ones I’ve re-read more times than I can count), and it’ll be really interesting to me to see what stands up, what doesn’t, and whether some of the books I didn’t care for as much have improved with age (either mine or theirs). Yay!

  1. Cool! I have The Lions of Al-Rassan on my TBR, and I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about his books in general. I will endeavour to get to that one soon! :D

    1. GGK seems to either work for people or not work, without much middle ground. It’ll be interesting to see what you think! Welcome to the read! :)

  2. I’m really looking forward to the month you read Tigana. It’s a book that has stuck in my memory since I first read it. I’m curious to see if it holds up 14 years later.

    1. That’ll be April’s book, and it’s one of the ones I’ve re-read many, many times. It holds up, for me. :)

  3. Eagerly awaiting my copy of the summer tree to arrive at the mobile library. My personal copies of the Finovar tapestry are 270 miles away and Kindle just don’t do it, so hurrah for the public library service!

  4. Yay! My librarian quit, and now I have no book club. Yay for this online fantasy book club!

  5. You know, I’ve been considering rereading the Fionavar Tapestry for a while to see if it holds up. This sounds like a good excuse
