TBR Shelf

More in the ongoing exploration of what’s on my TBR shelf, virtual as it may be. This has been great, honestly: it’s reminded me of LOTS of books I’d forgotten about. And as of when I started writing this particular post, I’ve only bought four new ones… :D

Still only linking to Amazon (all links are affiliate, I will earn some bitty percentage if you click through and use my links, etc etc etc) for these titles instead of doing the whole kit & kaboodle but if there are books I particularly think you should take the trouble to look up on your platform, I’ll continue to mention that.

ROMANCING THE BEAT: Story Structure for Romance Novels, Gwen Hayes

I oughta read this. I bet I could learn some things. :)

BLACK SUN RISING, Celia (C.S.) Friedman – this is not, ofc, a new read, just something I’ve got on my TBR shelf for a re-read. Gerald Tarrant is possibly my single favorite character in SFF ever. One of my goals in life is/was to write a character as charmingly compelling as he is. This is a “look it up on other sites if you haven’t read it” title.

SPELLS & SANDWICHES, Kate Moseman – I know nothing about this except it had a cute cover and title.

A SONG TO DROWN RIVERS, Ann Liang – possibly another Stephanie Burgis recommendation.

BECOMING CRONE, Lydia M Hawke – I love the concept of this and have been meaning to read it for aaaaaaages.

THE KEEPER’S SIX, Kate Elliott – I mean it’s Kate. Also themeatically in the same territory as BECOMING CRONE, which is to say: older woman saving the world.

THE KILLING BEACH, Skyla Dawn Cameron – this is one of my cover artists, who’s also a novelist, and I wuv her.

WIZARD OF THE PIGEONS, Megan Lindholm who is also Robin Hobb – also not a new read, tho I haven’t read it in -clears throat- a while. I remember loving it, though, so I look forward to re-reading it.

HEADS WILL CINNAMON ROLL, London Lovett – I read another of Lovett’s books a while ago and it was frankly extremely weird because the heroine, in her VERY early 40s, was OBSESSED with how old she was getting, like, freakishly obsessed. I kept thinking it had been written decades ago, except it was all up to date with mobile phones & etc, except no it turned out it had in fact been originally published in the 70s and been updated for everything except the weird obsession with her age, which, like, there was absolutely no reason to have not minimized or removed that, either, it would have made zero difference to the book.

But. Despite that real weirdness, it was a pretty good book and obviously I was prepared to read another. Although this is in a different series, which I sort of hope won’t have the same weird age obsessions.

LADY EVE’S LAST CON, Rebecca Fraimow – who could resist a title like that? The cover is a 1920s SF vibe, too, it’s amazing. I gotta read this. :)
