I went to Baby Cinema today and saw “The Kids Are All Right”, which I think misappropriated the title of The Who song, but that’s neither here nor there. It’s the sort of movie I wanted to see and would have felt vaguely disappointed about not seeing but now having seen it I can safely say I wouldn’t actually have missed it if I hadn’t seen it. (Capiche?) Probably most of that is due to Mark Ruffalo, who I find to be not so much unattractive as creepy, so his role could have been played by, say, Scooby Doo and I would have been happier with it. It’s not that he was bad. I just don’t get him as…well, anything but vaguely creepy. So. Take that as you will. Or something. :)
On the way home we saw a lot of students out in the aftermath of a protest. I liked their shirts, which said “Education, not Emigration”, and I’d have probably joined the protest if I’d known about it. Except I was busy watching a movie which in the end I didn’t need to see. :)
Apparently today is Equal Wages Day, which means that for the rest of the year, most fulltime professional women, who are paid an average of 16% less than their male counterparts, are working for free. It seems to me that the obvious response to this is for all those women to not go in to work for the rest of the year. I understand why, for practical reasons, that will not happen. But it seems like it might drive home a point.
I finished UNDER HEAVEN. Overall I liked it quite a lot. It had all the GGK grace notes and high spots and low, and it didn’t end quite how I thought it would. Close, but not quite. So I’m pleased with it.
Oh, and not that I’m trying to beggar you, but J Peterman is having a two day sale on dresses. :)
I just wanted to say thank you for pointing out the J. Peterman dress sale. I’ll spare you the details of the “saga” of the search for a new dress, but suffice it to say that I had been searching for a pretty new dress for quite a while and the search was. not. going. well. The desire for a pretty new dress was starting to eat at me.
And then I saw your tweet. And I decided to splurge.
And the dress I got is PERFECT! It is everything I was looking for and it’s just that much better because it was on sale.
Thank you so much!
oh! how splendid! I’m glad you found a great dress! <3 :)
