So my Walker Papers editor, Matrice, is in Ireland this week. With some crazy last minute planning, we managed to meet up for lunch today in Kilkenny, which is about halfway between where she was and where I am. I hopped on the train and had a lovely ride down, and got off the train grinning like a five year old full of anticipation. This magnificently ugly fellow is Ted’s nemesis at the zoo. Every time they’ve encountered each other, the hornbill defends his territory like crazy. Ted wasn’t with us when I took this, and the hornbill was showing off mightily for his lady friend, so I got some great pictures. :)

I’ve just put a deposit down on new digs to rent. It’s closer to my parents’ than our current place, right next to a park and to the Botanic Gardens, and has a small back yard for Young Indiana to play in. It’s a little farther away from the main road where Ted catches his bus, but we’re planning to get a car as soon as we can, so that won’t be too much of a bother. There’s a maintained forest in Cobh, Marlogue (Marlow) Wood. Scattered throughout it are small ruins, houses that have been taken back by the wood. This is my favorite shot I took of one, a hearth that appears in remarkably good condition, given that everything around it has largely disappeared.
