RIP, Iain Banks

Fairly early yesterday afternoon, my friend Pádraig posted on FB to say that after a sudden turn for the worse, Iain Banks had died early yesterday morning. I didn’t repost until I saw it confirmed elsewhere, because although there was really no chance Pádraig was wrong, I was still holding out a tiny thread of hope. Honestly, I have no business being so saddened by his death. I met him at a small convention in Belfast over the course of a weekend, and was completely charmed by him. I still,…

silly fun day

So my Walker Papers editor, Matrice, is in Ireland this week. whew.

I’ve just put a deposit down on new digs to rent. It’s closer to my parents’ than our current place, right next to a park and to the Botanic Gardens, and has a small back yard for Young Indiana to play in. Today, as it turns out, is the last day for nominations. If you happen to be a WFC member, and you care to make a last-minute rush on nominating BABA YAGA’S DAUGHTER, http://www.wfc2013.org/wfballot01.html :) I am really not very good at this awards pursuit thing, which is kind of too bad in this…
