Chicken Stewp

I had a chicken carcass, and I thought making a big pot of chicken stewp sounded like a good idea. I was right. :) The recipe as follows: 1 roast chicken carcass, steamed & stripped all attendant juices & fat from both roasting & steaming (or chicken stock), up to 4 cups 1/3 c flour 1 c onion, chopped 1-2 c carrots, chopped 2 (or whatever) c chicken 1 tsp each of: – sage – garlic – basil – parsley – salt 1 c sweetcorn 3 c chopped potatoes 1…

Snowy Owl at Dublin Zoo

Kitsnaps: Snowy Owl

People might get the impression I like birds. I really have no particular fondness or interest in them that I’m aware of, except I really like taking pictures of them. No idea why, honestly. This is a good picture in color (I’ll post it if people want to see it), but I think it’s fantastic in black and white. It’s the eyes, so clear and sharp. The patterns in the feathers are also much more distinct in black and white, and the sunlight hitting its breast and casting its head…

Kitsnaps: Westminster in Snow

From our trip to London last month! We about froze to death on the bus tour (because we were FOOLS and rode on the TOP) but it was well worth it. Our guide, Barry, was so brilliant we were totally unwilling to hop off anywhere for fear of missing the rest of his lecture, and London in the snow was quite beautiful. This is one of my favorite pictures I took, looking back at Westminster. After we got off the bus we were all so numb from cold that we…

Snow Leopard at Dublin Zoo

kitsnaps: snow leopard

Until this past month I’d never caught more than a glimpse of the snow leopards at Dublin Zoo. They’re very shy and usually hiding in their den, but the colder weather has, I guess, brought them out. They are *so* gorgeous, holy beans. I must go back and haunt the zoo some more before the weather warms up, because I’d love to get some more pictures. Honestly, not all the Kitsnaps will be zoo pictures. It’s just they’re what I’ve got handy right now. Once I’ve got my act together…

Waldrap Ibis at Dublin Zoo

kitsnaps: waldrapp ibis

I love these birds. They’re so flamboyantly ugly. They’re terribly endangered, with apparently only around 500 left in the wild, and as with all endangered species, I’m perpetually grateful for not only the opportunity to see them at all, but for the conservation and preservation work that zoos all over the world do. It’s not especially easy to get a good picture of one through the glass, so I’ve been trying for, oh, two years now. This is my favorite so far, though I’ll no doubt keep going back for…
