entertaining read

Real quick, before I dash off to sign up for dance class/go to yoga:

I just read ROGUE ANGEL: DESTINY, the first of an ongoing series about Annja Creed, an Indiana-Jones style archaeologist and (she said, generalizing wildly) the modern-day heir to Joan of Arc’s power. They’re put out by Gold Eagle, Harlequin’s “Men’s Adventure” line, and _that_ line is where the Bombshells should’ve been marketed under. The Strongbox Chronicles, at the very least, would’ve done well there.

Anyway, it was actually a pretty entertaining book. Nice quick read, basically delivers exactly what you’re expecting (I mean, really: Indiana Jones as heir to Joan of Arc. There ya go.) I’ve got another one from later in the series and am kind of interested to see if the storytelling quality holds up. If it does I’ll probably find other books in the series, though not right away. Ted and I have declared a moratorium on buying new books until we’ve cleared at least half the TBR shelves. (*gasp*)

Off to class stuff and stuff now. I said coherently.

  1. The series holds up fairly well, although some are better than others. I class them as “mind candy.” It does have a lot of parallels with Witchblade here and there.
BTW, posting from Maidstone, Kent on combined holiday and cat show judging. Back to the US on Wednesday. I really wanted to get to Springfield when you were there, but we were off judging a cat show somewhere.

  2. Yeah, definitely mind candy. :) I believe they’re written by several people under the Alex Archer umbrella, so that’s why I’m curious about the quality. Cool, thanks for letting me know!

I’ll be at WFC in Saratoga Springs in November, if that’s of any use to you! :)

  3. Well, it’s only been a few days, but thus far we haven’t burst into flame or anything!

  4. I’ve been quite enjoying them. The ones so far have alternated back and forth between Victor Milan and Mel Odom as the writers, but I recall reading on the website of a Luna or Bombshell author was writing one.

Hmm… A quick check of names finds that Michele Hauf is the one who has contracted to write a book for the series, according to her website. No word on date.

  5. I read book 1 and enjoyed it but now need to find book 2 before I can read book 3… dammit.

  6. Hey Catie,
I have bought all the books to date so far. Haven’t read them yet but I am sure I will get to them eventually!

  7. saw the cover while in your place and thought that it was one I would pick up and buy based on the cover alone – I might request to borrow ahead of any purchasing I do?

  8. I’m reading the other one I have, THE LOST SCROLLS, and it’s not as tight as the first one, but it seems to be worth blowing through. :)
